Meaning of Phase II: Agree, disagree, thoughts?

I was familiar with the MK Ultra program and other mind-control experiments run by our own government, so the premise wasn't a huge shocker. I thought it was portrayed in a very interesting, thought provoking way (except for killing off the only female straight-away).

I found it interesting that "Phase II" was indoctrination. Was this supposed to be just a logical next-step? My thought was "Ah! Is this a reference at how, especially after 9/11, if you lived in the US, you were indoctrinated with the message that WE are the good guys and THEY are the bad guys? (I remember cringing when hearing Toby Keith's "The Angry American" I didn't want to "put a boot in" the "ass" of a generalized portrayal of a generalized culture.)

But, I digress. Constantly.

So, did anyone else think something similar when Nick Cannon reached the Second Phase? Am I completely off?

PS: I've seen a few arguments over whether it was a story based on the interactions between the 4 characters or a look into Emily's psyche. I think it was both. It was a portrayal of how the government created two terrorists; one out of torture and terror, the other out of reward.

Late late late reply to this but oh well. I think that it was a very specific cultural nod to where we stand as a country. At some point we will reach the stage where it's like we are saying *beep* it, if you can't beat em join em. I truly believe a program like this exists and I'm not a conspiracy theorist or anything like that. The same goes for concepts like the Bourne movies. There's a very real shadow zone of our government where things that we can only imagine being real in some way out there kind of way , are really happening. Do you honeslty believe that our govt doesn't partake in the same types of mind programming, not so much mind control, but programming, that we did back in the 50's - 70's? Hell yes we do, especially given the technology and chemicals we have easy access to and the leaps and bounds with which we are advancing those things. Rambling now..

I liked the part of your post where you said you was a conspiracy theorist then went on to list your beliefs in conspiracies.

IMO the girl was never at all suitable. She was merely there for the shock value of that kind of violence towards a woman. Cleverly contrasted by the director flirtatiously holding her chin before blowing her brains out.

Amy: I swear to God...I swear to God! That is NOT how you treat your human!
