I hate it when they change who's playing a recurring character in a series - it's jarring to me.
I also far prefer FRINGE to this show - even if the science is even more Voodoo than here, they manage to make it sound Just Plausible Enough that you can go along with it. The entire writing and mythology of FRINGE, even at its most absurd, Just Works....
...Or maybe it's simply that John Noble, with his Frasier Crane-meets-Orson Welles American accent, is better at selling taffy than Rufus Sewell is - and Anna Torv's a more believable "young female FBI Agent" than Marley Shelton. Joshua Jackson's smart but resentful Deputy Genius Who Explains the Plot To Us Amid Snarky Comment About His Nutty Professor Dad also helps things along a lot.
