This looks kinda cool...

But what on Earth is up with the title? It doesn't flow and sounds just plain ridiculous. With how much creativity is in this show you're telling me they couldn't come up with a better title? Lame.

reply

Well I guess the title "Socky" draws from the fact that their clothes and the monkey minions look like sock puppets or could have to do with "Lets give evil a socking". Remember in Peanuts Lucy is always telling Charlie Brown "I oughta sock you Charlie Brown!"

And as for the "Chop" part the term Chop plays a large part in the Chinese and Japanese cultures, for instance there is Oriental dish called Chop Suey.

I'm watching the first episode on CartoonNetwork.com/videos

reply

yes but that does not explain the 'chooks' part. still a weak title.

"Chop Socky" is a martial arts movie genre: http://www.docurama.com/productdetail.html?productid=NV-NVG-9704

"Chooks" is slang for Chicken

The series is about 3 kung fu fighting chickens, although designs soon veered away from the chicken aspect, the name and concept stuck.

The series is showing on Cartoon Network US Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Hope you enjoy it!

When my son and I first saw the advertisements, we argued about whether or not they were chickens. I said they were chickens with lips. He "informed" me that chickens don't have lips. When we sat down and watched our first episode, much time was spent debating the chickens and their lips. Throughout that ordeal, I realized it was a pretty cute show.

It's good to know that sometimes ol' mom does know what she's talking about...chickens can have lips and know martial arts!

"Chooks" sounds like a racial slur...

reply

I thought the name sounded a bit "racist" too. Now, don't flame me, I'm NOT saying the show is racist at all, and I'm also sure the creators never intended for it to be seen as such...but still, the first thing I thought when I saw the title was "I wonder if anyone is going to be offended?"...I'm glad no one seems to be.

reply

Ok lets all calm down. It is not even slightly about race. Here in Australia chickens are just about always called 'chooks'. We go to KFC to get some chook for dinner. Chickens are just called chooks. It is slang.

didnt know it was British in origin lol
they should have used Brit VAs
would have been amusing
