...and I died here. (Spoilers within)


The grandfather makes a speech late in the film about when he served with the German army against the Communists.

Towards the end of that speech, as he tells his grandson about how he was born on that land, worked it, lived on it, he eventually says, "...and I died on it."

At least that's what I think he says.

To this Vlad asks, "...are you sure..."

And the grandfather respond, "...it was the worst thing that ever happened to me..."

But the reason I bring this up deals with some confusion I have with the whole mythology presented in the story. Constantin, his wife and the cop seem to follow the classic vampire requirements of returning to their graves each morning and I assumed that is because they are Dead Strigoi.

But Vlad's grandfather is clearly seen awake in his home in the day and even walks outside in the light when they are looking for the dog.

So I assume his is a Living Strigoi.

So what does that whole speech ending with his death mean?
