He said "years" but did not say how many.

I wouldn't mind it either, only how did he manage to build all those things in a short period of time plus how did he manage to erect the treehouses without any kind of lifting equipment and labor that is necessary to put those things up in the air? That kind of thing is beyond one man and even two guys.

Exactly. And people keep saying if he could build that kind of treehouse he sure could build a boat too.

I believe he mentions that he has been on the island for 5 years, atleast several times. So not exactly a short period, and he hasn't had a whole lot to do. And he erected the tree house the same way people worked before mechanized lifting equipment was invented. He probably used a series of pulleys and levers to hoist lumber. We already know he uses pulleys for his elevator system and many of his traps. Plus, we know he is well schooled and inventive, with a large amount of resources at his disposal. While I agree it is probably a bit more than one would need in real life, it is possible to an incredibly industrious person.
And it is an incredibly beautiful house and I would love to live there, although it didn't look like it would fare particularly well in severe tropical storms. But, none the less, great for the imagination!
