I wouldnt wanna write this script...

I mean, how the fudge are they gonna squeeze all the chapters into one movie, and also have time to explain all the twists towards the end? It took the anime 25 eps to even consider explaining anything, which was just cool, creating a big twin peaks mystery of it all.
I suggest that the script writers watch Groundhog Day before they start, that similar-themed movie managed to make the script extremely thoughtout and understandable, and may actually have inspired Higurashis original story to begin with. (dont quote me on that, I dont know for certain if Groundhog Day was the first story with that "stuck in time, doing the same day over and over"-concept, but they do seem pretty similar to me).

Anyway, love the show, hope the movie doesn´t blow!

wrong, its based on the first arc. as in the first arc shown in the anime.

Oh yeah, there is some similarity. I never would have compared the two xD

It could be good to use that approach, and it will probably be helpful to have someone realize/state that things are repeating early on (unlike in the anime) so that the general audience won't get lost or frustrated. Then again, this movie's probably more for the people who have seen Higurashi so it might not matter. Hm, maybe they could just state the date each time it resets, too, so people know that it's the same days repeating. I do wonder if they can get across the feeling of the massive number of repeats and possibilities, plus all the death, and still manage to reveal what's going on behind it all without it being rushed. I doubt they can. I wonder if it'll just turn out to be a bloodfest with a few omigawd-ur-the-badguy moments.

It looks like all they're doing is a straight up live action adaptation of Onikakushi-hen, and not explaining all the rest of it.

Probably the best idea, because it works OK as a self contained horror tale anyway, even without the explanatory surroundings. (It was pretty intentional, that first chapter is designed to draw in viewers by presenting them with a fairly quick taste of the series as a whole).

That this film was not based on the anime? It was based on the original visual novel. It's going to be condensed in some way, of course, but this version of the media is to appeal to those who are not fans of anime or visual novels.

The purpose of multiple interpretations is to in some way tell the story to people in far-reaching realms of fandom, as a separate entity and interpretation of the source material (given that there is in fact any source material to be had).

I don't enjoy super-cute-ified murderesses, so I haven't had any interest in watching Higurashi as an anime, but I enjoyed watching the film as -- just that -- a film. I've not been able to find a localized or translated version of the visual novel (and translating it as I go would take any enjoyment out of it for me, so I prefer not to), so I can't say for sure how accurate a depiction it is, but it's not -meant- to be compared to the anime.

So, don't compare them as if they're meant to go together.

They're not.
