Wait... what?

The whole movie puts emphasis on the fact that the lead character has to choose one of her identities, be it MIley or Hannah. And then in the end of the movie... she chooses... both?

...Why... just... not make the movie?

I agree. Unless the movie was going to have major importance to the HM franchise, it shouldn't have been made. It was pretty pointless really.

Highly agreed. This just proof that Disney only thinks about franchise and money - not about pleasing the audience. Thankyou, stupid Disney!

they should have made the movie at the end of the hannah montana series, then it would have had more importance

and will the events of the movie ever be said during the show?

reply

No, I think the "point" of the character, and person, was for her to always remember where she came from. She could have the big music world and still hold her roots. Which, in fact, I think that's what Miley does.
And I think the songs reflected that too.
A side (maybe a side) "point" of this movie was to present 12 new songs.
There is nothing wrong with that, (the Beatles even did it.)

reply

The Beatles didn't have a television show with character development and plot. And then start a movie that has something to do with said character and that those said characters have to make a choice.

Only to simply not make that choice at all.

The Beatles just did some acid trip crap while they were on acid. And you didn't expect anything else from them, because they never presented you with anything else to expect from the movie project.

actually they did. The Beatles did have a cartoon tv series about them back in the 1960s.

Then they are just as much of a whore as Miley Cyrus.

So there's nothing wrong to tell a story that's about hypocrisy?? Good to know :P

reply

I know. I thought she was gonna reveal her identity. I wanted that and then she could still be Hannah Montana but with everyone knowing. But I still liked the movie. She chose both because her fans were saying things like, "Don't make Hannah go away!" or "We really love Hannah!!! Please keep being Hannah!!" so that's what made her decide to still be Hannah and stay Miley.

I LOVE THE JONAS BROTHERS!!!<3

I think the whole reason she did this movie was, because Miley Cyrus wants out of the HM franchise and to go off on her own. This movie is a way to allow her to get people to see the connection between the two, so they will sympathize with her when she finally tells Disney to *beep* off. If you think about it, she's been grooming this idea for a long time now very gradually, and this movie is just the next step. It's just a way to keep her fans interested in her after she leaves. If this is what she's doing, I support her all the way. I just hope she doesn't end up like Britney Spears!

I won't lie I like this movie, and I just wanted to state my opinion on the whole 'She didn't choose .' issue. If you stop and think about it she did choose, she chose to be Miley, but her fans chose her to be Hannah. The point of her dad making her choose was because of her behavoir, and by the end he saw that she had truly realized what her actions had done to those around her. At least thats what I thought of it.

reply

True, but they shouldn't have made the tagline what it was if she didn't actually end up choosing. That's all that bothered me was that the tagline gave false impressions. COMPLETELY. The ending wasn't bad, dont' get me wrong, but if she didn't actually choose, they shouldn't have told the audience that she was going to.

I get what your saying.

I agree. Finally someone with a brain enough to realize it.

The problem I had with the movie (from an adult, analytical POV) is that it had no clear theme driving any of the characters, or actions.

I think if it had a more focused theme it would have been a better movie. Not great, but not so ambiguous as it currently stands.

A theme is a thesis statement e.g. Sometimes people create personas to help them deal with life, but there comes a time when those personas are no longer needed.

I *think* this is what the theme of HM:TM is (was)... Except nothing changed in the end. She stayed Hannah Montana! WTF?!

This is the exact opposite of a character arc.

Yes, she learned to be a nicer person so-to-speak, but her real internal struggle was coming to the realization she did not need HM anymore. She could just be Miley Stewart, and let the chips fall where they may after that. But this did not happen.

I know the real world reason was money (Disney wanted one more season of HM). But from a strictly storytelling POV, she should have walked off the stage as Miley Stewart and this would have made "The Climb" resonate a lot more than it did e.g. it is the journey and not the destination since "Hannah" represents the ultimate destination (money, fame, etc)."

Once people have bought the ticket to the movie, the quality of it is irrelevant. It's like a joke on the (adult) viewer.

Give the kid some soda, popcorn and lollies and they'd like it no matter what. For everyone else, it's like a "hahahhaha I got your money" joke.

Budget:$30,000,000 (estimated)
Gross:$155,525,718 (Worldwide) (18 May 2010)

That is a serious profit. Nice work giving this movie so much profit you silly people ahahahahahah!

Probably the same people that pay concert tickets to see Britney lip sync, all you are paying for is hearing the same CD you bought played loud through a PA.

I love you, Jon364. Finally someone with a brain here :) Someone who is mature enough to hate HM.

For all the cyncial thoughts and overexposure regarding the "Hannah Montana" franchise, I thought the movie was the worst component of it and really adressed all the wrong things about "Hannah". It's not that the movie was horrific. Despite not being completely unwatchable, it did came across as ambiguous and muddled. Especially when it came to depiction of the ending and the moral of the movie. If the movie was never supposed to be an ending to the Hannah franchise, then why portray it as something that could've ended it? And portray such a contradicting moral?

And I'm glad that I'm stating my opinion about it several years later. The prime years of Hannah were either filled with hostile, oversensitive Hannah fans or trolls.
