Any non-Hannah fans like this movie?

I’m a 24 year old guy and never really liked the TV show. I found it silly and corny. But of course it’s supposed to be like that since it’s a kid’s show. But seeing the commercials and trailers for this movie made me want to see it. I rented it and am really impressed. It’s nothing like the TV show. It’s a lot more serious than the TV show and deals with this teenage girl who is struggling to get her life back on track. I thought it was a very nice plot.

So, I never liked the TV show but I really like the movie. Is anyone here the same way?

It’s strange that people give this movie a low rating just because of the Hannah Montana name. It is a very different ballpark, IMHO, despite having the same title as the show.

reply

I'm sure there's a lot of people who feels the same way, but I'm genuinly tired of everyone bragging about how better the film is than the show, cause it's not. The show is genuinly fun, the movie was dreadful.

reply

Like I said, while both the show and the movie carry the Hannah Montana name, they’re completely different IMHO. One really can't say the movie is better than the show or vice-versa. They're two different ballparks. The movie has a serious plot while the show is just all fun & games. That’s why I have a hard time believing why a person would like BOTH the show and the movie. They’re just very different. I would expect Hannah fans to like the show and not like the movie (like you do). But people like me who don’t care for the show, I expect that they’d find the movie interesting and not judge it because of its name. I’m into drama, which is why I like this movie. If people can overlook the Hannah Montana name, I bet more people (especially non-Hannah) fans would like it, especially if they’re into family drama.

reply

Sorry for being so unconstructive in my first reply. Yes, the show and the movie are different, but actually many Hannah fans loves both the show and the movie. Many reviewers have pointed out that any Hannah fans would love the movie (which is a statement which I've found really irritating, since loving the movie wasn't the case with me).

It's understandable that people who doesn't like the show would appreciate the more serious nature of the movie. The choice to making the movie more mature is admirable, considering that parents were obligated to join their kids at the theatre to see this flick. Frankly, it's not a bad movie, but it could been better. I liked some parts (the beginning, the Hoedown-throwdown, the moments between Travis and Miley), but I felt the drama was rather forced - mainly because I'm used to seeing the characters in less serious circumstances. And many of the songs were plain horrible.

But frankly, I know people who aren't ashamed to confess that they actually liked the movie. And neither are the people on this board.

reply

I liked it a lot too, but have never watched the show.

reply

Why did you see the movie, then?

reply

That is a question you could’ve asked me too since I was never a fan of the show.

So, my answer would be: I don’t know. Good question. I saw a few promos for it and read some reviews, so I figured, heck, let me give this movie a chance and Netflix it. So I did. And I really liked it. I am both happy and upset that I rented it. I’m happy because I was able to see a movie that I enjoyed. But I’m upset because I did enjoy it and now I actually bought the movie for $10 on Ebay. Now, I have to hide it because when my friends and family come over, I’ll never hear the end of it.

I’m happy because I was able to see a movie that I enjoyed.

So you enjoyed a crappy movie which was badly written, full of plotholes, had cringe-worthy humor and had the most retarded, most hypocritical message ever?

Good to know.

reply

My girlfriend wanted to see it. Miley was cute on the cover, so I figured it would be worth a watch. I had also heard people say that you didn't need to know to the show to enjoy the movie. I didn't really have any expectations. I mostly like movies from the 80's and 70's, but I liked this one a lot. It was fun. Nice tunes, nice humour with a cute little romance. And I liked the whole feel of the movie.

reply

I wouldn't call the last part of the movie for fun.

Personally, if you were my boyfriend, I would have broken up with you. No offence.

I liked it a lot too, but have never watched the show.

So you liked a movie which is about hypocrisy? Good to know, lol!

reply

i enjoyed the show very little, it was never particularly funny or memorable, but i really liked this movie. it definitely caught me off guard.

reply

I didn't like the show at all and never really liked Miley either. I got stuck watching the movie when I babysat my cousin and found myself enjoying it.

reply

I would prefer if people actually would check out the show instead of the dreadful movie.

I'm 21 I watch the Show even though I'm not a fan and I liked the movie a lot. It's not a masterpiece of course, and the film doesn't claim to be but it was cute.

reply

Well OP I know what you mean I'm 28 and I'm not a huge fan of Hannah Montana or Miley Cyrus. Everynow and then I will turn to Disney Channel and get hooked to the TV show. Then yesterday for the first time I watched the whole movie and actually got choked up with tears...especially when she sung "the climb" song.

The fact that the terrible song was in the movie and that people enjoy it makes me cry...

you know, it's not nice to make fun of someone who loved the show and got into a depression because of it! so stop it!

What's a 24 year old guy watching the movie OR the show?

Hahahahahahahaha.

Embarressing.

reply

I'm trying to sync the movie up with Dream Theater's 2002 album SIX DEGREES OF INNER TURBULENCE.

If you are familiar with the album, let me know.

I am in my late 20s, and I am female, and I never watched Hannah Montana TV show, and to be honest, I watched this movie because of Lucas Till, cause he was so cute in the MV "You belong with me", I had a good time watching this movie. Maybe one of the reason I liked it is because I didn't expect this to be a nice to watch, actually, I expected this movie to be a complete trash. But it was cute and didn't require any intelligence to enjoy this film - just watch and laugh. And I also liked to watch cute people dancing and singing.

If older people, like my age or older people did this movie, it would've been a black comedy.

Yes, its true what you're saying; It doesn't require any brain to watch this movie - which means that all of you who liked it are completely brainless for liking a movie that its about hypocrisy, lol!

Don't take it personally, but its no wonder that people are getting stupider nowadays.

yeah, like it truly was more serious and had such a nice plot. the plot was essentially a rehash of other country movies. and not 2 mention how the moral of the story seriously contradicts it at the end.
