I really like George Martin

It's great he's still going and is able to comment on the music making process, which is by far the most interesting aspect, to me, of The Beatles. His anecdotes about George's precociousness ('Anything you don't like?' 'Yes your tie for starters'!) and the origins of Within You, Without You were great.

I always thought he was a very conservative music maker who favoured Paul McCartney. Looks as though I might be wrong.

I agree. He definitely helped to make the Beatles better. And for the most part he is very modest about his contributions.

yes, i don't think the beatles would have been about half of what they were ... maybe not that much but martin is so important in knowing the ins and outs of the studio, he's able to make arrangements that gave many songs a beautiful orchestration that was much better than guitars and drums only would have been, and he was a good balance it seems for the different personalities and as the personalities became more difficult, he was a much needed intermediary and ballast for a heavily-listing ship ...

plus, just as a personal observation, he seems like such a nice man ... i'd love to just sit and chat with him ... just seems like an all-around nice guy

Sadly George is pushing 90 or already in his 90's. I know Paul and Ringo will be shattered when it's his time to leave this earth. I think he was like a kind uncle to them.

What's not to like about George Martin? He's had an amazing long life full of love and creativity, and he pretty much made the Beatles success before and after they stopped touring. Also probably one of the nicest and most humble "famous" people still around.

If you like him watch the documentary "Produced by George Martin" - very touching.
