This series really hooked me too with the first episode Eater. I watched the first 12 episodes on disc and the last episode "The Circle" streaming as it was the only one ep listed on disc 4. If you watched on discs. you may have found the 5-6 minute director-of-episode features entertaining.

Unfortunately, the series (2008) ended about three years ago, so unless it is picked up again after a gap--as Arrested Development will be in 2013 (but not by a conventional station, by netflix!), it is dead. It was on NBC, which now has a fantasy/horror offering in Grimm which hasn't grabbed me. (Has Grimm had a worthy horror episode, anyone?)

Have you seen Masters of Horror (2005-2007) which was Fear Itself's more explicit predecessor on Showtime? It is on Netflix also (and occasionally in censored form on Reelz). It also features big-name directors like Dario Argento and John Carpenter, not on Fear Itself, though I admit to liking the Fear Itself episode of some directors who did both shows--liking Stuart Gordon's Eater (FI) over his "Dreams of the Witch House" (MOH1) or "Black Cat" (MOH2).

Are near-misses in the news really near-hits?

yea that was one of my favorite shows ever. i remember that from way back in the day. i think thats why i like this show so much. i like american horror story it comes on f/x

Eatters the best to me. i like the majority of the eps. most of them have great twist endings. family man is probably my #2, it was messed up. sickness and in health and spooked where very good. skin and bones was up there. i think the worst to me where chance and something with a bite. i still like something with a bite though, because its had some funny moments and some good moments, but it was not really scary at all.

I assuming the ratings were abysmal? I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality of most of the writing and the diversity of themes. I wish there had been more seasons.

You wrote this reply in 2011 saying you remember Master's of Horror from way back in the day? Really? How was a show that was on from 2005 to 2007 way back in the day, especially considering you wrote this reply in 2011? I'm assuming you're quite young to see something that is only a few years old as being from way back the day?
