Does anybody recall what towns in Iowa this documentary visits?

I believe it's Greene, Iowa

Yes, Greene. It's in the northern part of Iowa, between Mason City and Waterloo.

there are some shots from iowa city too; the university campus & L&M gas station, for example.

They really only specifically name Greene (north of Waverly), but there are lots of interviews with University of Iowa and Iowa State academics, and I suspect that there's probably footage from Ames and Iowa City, too.

Ha! Yes, that surprised me. I used to live one block over from the L & M Mighty shop and walked over there all the time to buy stuff (full of hfcs, no doubt).
