what would corn syrup do to us?

I'm not sure if they mentioned this in the film but what would corn syrup exactly do to us? All they said was that we would die a lot sooner than we thought.

I'm human and I need to be loved.

You'll brain will explode!!!! Eating lots of HCFS is just as unhealthy as eating lots of sugarcane sugar.

reply

Well according to alternative research it makes people fat quicker, it also makes you want to eat more food and gets you addicted and crave that food. If you want more info look up Kevin Trudeau and his books.

reply

It's sugar. If you don't burn it off, it will cause weight gain, and it adds no nutritional value to what you eat.

And because it's an additive in the vast majority of processed foods, most of us eat much more than we are likely to burn off, without even really thinking about it.

reply

Eat less, exercise more... =)

reply

For god's sake NO! Kevin Trudeau is a convicted con man and fraud! He is a scammer, and has absolutely NO credentials to be informing anyone about nutrition!

Stop using TV as your information source, and do a little real reading and research.

Half of it contains mercury, which destroys your brain and other organs.

reply

Mercury is brain food, all geniuses eat it.

Just watched the documentary. Been watching a lot of them lately. How does corn kill us you ask. It was stated several times that cows die from all of the corn that they are fed. We eat everything made from corn. Easy for me to see the connection.

I guess the only fix for the problem would be to eat nothing that comes in a box or can,and try to buy meat that isn't "grain fed". Of course the catch is that it will cost more money to eat "better" food. It was stated that cheap is best, and cheap is the reason that we have the problems with obesity etc.

reply

Cheap is definitely the main reason for obesity in America.

I've recently started eating healthy (egg whites, chicken breast, lean beef, salmon, organic flax bread, brown rice, nuts, skim milk/cottage, jerky, lots of salad- not nasty "garden", some fruits, yogurt, etc) and just for a single guy aiming for 2,000-2,200 calories a day, it's costing about $300/month (and I'm buying on sale).

And the only thing I buy organic is my flax bread. If I wanted everything organic and natural from my eggs to my fruit, it would probably cost $450 a month. For one person. I couldn't imagine trying to feed a family of four on nothing but organic foods.

This is my biggest fear.

I live in Australia and it's the same. My husband and I eat very healthy and it costs us $150 - $200 a week AUD... and we are very frugal and don't even eat meat! (vegan!)... if I was just to live off noodles, microwave meals and soda, it would probably only cost me a max of $80 a week. We are looking to start a family soon and I really don't want to think about how much it will cost to feed a family what we are eating now... but I have to think about it. What bothers me the most is that the vegetables aren't even at market price. I can either buy 1 avocado or 12 tartlets. both are $3.

That is where a bulk of the problem lies.

Corn starch is long chains of glucose. Enzyme processing breaks apart the starch into glucose, then turns 55% of it to fructose, making it slightly sweeter than natural sugar (sucrose). Glucose doesn't taste sweet compared to fructose.

The dangerous aspect of sucrose and especially HFCS is that only the glucose portion in the bloodstream signals the brain that you've have enough, and is processed rapidly into energy. The fructose portion tastes sweet, but isn't very useful to the body - so the liver processes it into fat. I've talked with a pediatric endocrinologist who sees an alarming number of children with diabetes and liver damage - some of them may not make it to 30.

Want free health care? Stop drinking sugary soda pop and fruit juices. Drink water instead, perhaps with a little lemon. Agave, honey? It's all sugar. OTOH, a small spoonful of Karo syrup - which is glucose from corn - can help suppress appetite. Willpower is even better. You save money on soda, and on your dentist, too.

What a load of bullshit! The glucose:fructose ration of HFCS and sugar cane/beet is all near 1:1. Apple/pear has the highest fructose! All excess sugar turns to fat. Small portions of fructose is best for diabetics.
