I came across it in a funny way. I was in the gym with my headphones on and the TV was silent with subtitles. It was just starting, where she has that little dream, then aerial shots of New York (my wife's home town - I love any movie set there). It was on Channel 5 (UK), home of trashy TV movies, and that's what it looked like - even without reading the titles I could see - cute kid trying to get mother hooked up, "friend" whom she eventualy realises she loves (I thought he might be gay, given how much time they were spending together and yet she STILL didn't realise it. Ah, the gay male friend, that other staple of cliched, trashy movies).
I even predicted she was a widow (so much more sympathetic than those loser divorcees) and that her late husband would be a saint. I couldn't believe how right I was - he was an NYPD cop gunned down in the line of duty! Anyway, I found it for a couple of dollars in Region 1 and bought it (I have a multi region player).
I can see why our friend above might not enjoy it and surely he or she is entitled to their opinion - it's not Citizen Kane, it's unchallenging trash. I would normally have agreed but I just wanted some Christmas pap to flow over me, so I switched off my brain and enjoyed.
Awight we're The Daamned we're a punk baand and this is called Carn't Be Appy T'day!
