Here's my two cents about this abomination

I would like to know what the Director was thinking when they actually had the idea for this film. First of all, I can honestly say that I have never seen a worse piece of garbage in my life,...even Open Water was better than this. I'm not just going to say that it's bad and end it there, because I think that it should be against the law for me to have paid almost 5 dollars to rent this with absolutely no warning whatsoever, oh no no...let me go in depth and tell you why this is a waste of your time. The characters have zero depth, the storyline jumps around every 3 minutes, the camera shaking is horrible, the acting is laughable, and you can tell that the entire thing is just half assed. Everything about this from the opening credits to the end just screams "a couple of friends trying to make a horror movie" at best. Clearly the director was trying to mimic some major motion picture and create the feeling like they did in Hostel or Saw, but failed miserably. The fact that they had someone write a review and give it 5 stars on here is a joke, don't be fooled, it's the producer's friend. Honestly though, it's the worst acting that I have ever witnessed, and in the end, a horrendous movie from beginning to end. Please, save your money and pass this one up, I have no idea how this even got into the movie stores. This needs to be sitting on the director's dvd player with only one other copy in existence. DVD's shouldn't be wasted on something like this.

tuckywoodproductions, I assume that you are the director or played a major part in this film. What is that supposed to mean "I don't know why people get so bent out of shape, or take it seriously". Well, you're taking my 5 dollars seriously aren't you ?, the same exact amount that it would cost me to rent Titanic or Schindler's List, so why wouldn't people take it seriously ?, it has a professionally designed cover on the DVD, complete with a girl in a white lace bra and panties tied up. So what do you mean you don't understand why people "take it seriously" ?. I got duped into renting an independent waste of time, and you have my 5 dollars...that's why I take it seriously.

reply

It happens to be my first feature. People don't realize how much work goes into making a feature film, and to get it out there onto mainstream shelves is another thing all together. I know very few people that could shoot a feature on the micro budget we had, and when I say micro I mean what most films spend on craft services for a day. Did you honestly think that you were getting a "Schindlers List" or a "Titantic" did you read the description....lol. Yes I am very proud of my "abomination" Myst93. Thank you for your very insightful and helpful review. It must have took a lot of thought.

No need to twist and contort my words around,...I said that I paid 5 dollars to rent your movie, which is the same amount that Titanic and Schindler's List would cost. Previously you said "what did you expect?". I expected a decent movie was all. The concept was at least decent, I mean, I could see a movie being about weed in exchange for victims, but you didn't touch on anything at all in the movie like that, or it seems like you tried, but the acting was so horrendous that I just couldn't take anything seriously. I obviously sensed your sarcasm when you said "must have taken a lot of thought", meaning my previous post, so I will explain what I mean when I say that this was an abomination. First of all, you took the girls father on the actual investigation with the officer, that just doesn't happen, period, thats police business. Secondly, the interrogating police officer was such a pansy that during questioning, the father was talking half the time, and the officer the other half, which shouldn't have been that way,...to create depth and differentiate one character from another, the officer should have played a more dominate role in the film and should have been the so called "hero" when the girl was rescued. As soon as the two guys first came into contact with Bud, he immediately pointed a shotgun at them threatening them with "3 GIRLS, 3 DAYS!!!",...which was horrible to just spill out the plot of the storyline like that, there was no buildup of any sort, no climatic parts at all, how Bud was right then is how he was throughout the entire movie...we didn't learn anything else about him. The guys should have been captured, started to be tortured, and then Bud could have laid out the groundwork for what he wanted...you needed to be more involved with Bud and how he thinks and what he wanted. With how you did it, there was no premeditation at all...it was just boom bam, here's what I want now go get it for me. All very linear and fake, at least my opinion. Now you can either take what I said and try to have a more involved storyline and character creation and depth, or you can just dismiss what I say, either way, I couldn't care less. Speaking from the user reviews that I see here though, not too many other people liked the film,...that's just my two cents. Looking back on how I came across though initially, I do apologize for how ruff I sounded, I guess that I shouldn't have been that hard on you if it was your first film.

reply

Thanks you for that reply. You obviously did put some thought into that post and I appreciate that. There is no reason to apologize. In this biz you have to grow a thick skin, which I guess mine is not quit thick enough yet...lol This is more of a character study then anything, and in reality should be labeled more of a crime/thriller than Horror. You made some very valid points.

As for the father going on the investigation, if you missed that part, he was a retired detective. The head investigator on the case was his former partner. That's why they are both involved. We might do a prequel one day to explain more of the back story of Bud, and how he got started in what he does.

On the other reviews, you either like it or hate it. Simple as that. I get emails everyday from people who really enjoyed the film. We have also got many great reviews from mainstream websites such as: DVD TALK, DEADPIT.COM, BLOODTYPE ONLINE,and TERRORHOOK to name a few. For anyone that is interested you can find tons of interviews on our myspace page: www.myspace.com/stashflick.

Far as the reviews on here, they can be brutal for a lot of indie films. They are being judged up against multi million dollar films. Most people on here are mainstream movie watchers.

We're all just very glad for the success we have had with it so far, and are gearing up for a new horror film to begin pre-production in the next couple of months. Again thank you for your reply.

Wow myst that is rough! You lost a whole 5 dollars, I guess you will live in poverty the rest of your life from now on. I am truly sorry to hear that you were expecting something as good as Schlinder List. And 5 whole dollars down the drain. Poor myst maybe we can pass around a hat and get him that whole 5 dollars that he lost.

For what it is worth this movie is definitely worth 5 dollars, heck I'd even go 10 or 15 on it. Lots of original ideas were in the flick, and it is worth watching.

I hope I never get so down on my luck that a whole 5 dollars lost would make me go ballistic. The way I am seeing the whole 5 dollar thing, is that someone needs to quit watching movies and get their butt down to the welfare office and start getting some public assistance. I know a job is out of the question.

Good Job Tucky!

My congratulations to you both for being able to go from trashing to respectful understanding in so few posts. Very rare online.

I agree totally with Jacob. Getting anything produced (a short or, a feature)is a major accomplishment in itself. For the genre of films like Last House on the Left, this fits right in there as good as any of them. Each character as a unique role and performed it well. We're not expecting a classic dialogue worthy of Citizen Kane or Inherit the Wind. Geeze! Watch the film and enjoy it for what it is. A story of a demented hillbilly who's totally messed in the head(and some inadvertant "not so smart" accomplices) who totally wreck some poor girl's lives. Watch Titanic for what it is and watch Stash for it's ploy. Trashing things to the level done, was just a cheap shot.

two points i'd like to make here.

1. you said their was no warning about how stupid this movie is? WTF DO YOU THINK IMDB WAS MADE FOR??? LOOK UP MOVIE REVIEWS BEFORE YOU WATCH THEM. IF YOU DON'T THINK A MOVIE SOUNDS GOOD, TAKE IT BACK TO THE STORE AND GET YOUR MONEY BACK.

FINALLY, MY SECOND POINT. I'VE WASTED TOO MUCH TIME ON YOU ALREADY.

2. YOU BITCH ABOUT PAYING 5 BUCKS FOR A MOVIE. FIRST OF ALL
WHAT VIDEO RENTAL STORE CHARGES 5 BUCKS FOR RENTALS???
OH AND I'M WATCHING IT FOR FREE ONLINE RIGHT AS I'M WRITING THIS..

Don't post here all that much, but do a good bit of reading and felt like I could say something here. I enjoyed the movie. I've been watching a lot of big budget SFX driven movies and every now and then I'll go on a kick of a week or 2 where I watch Indie movies. I always find a few here and there that surprise me in a good way, and this was 1 of them. Nice to see a film that made sure to give what was advertised and it was better then I was expecting. I'll be keeping an eye out for your future work. Good job and congrats on completing a film, not too many people are able to reach that level.

Myst93 - I both agree and disagree with what you have said.

Where I disagree is that I believe there actually are worse movies out there, although you have to search hard to find them.

I agree with almost everything else you have said. I understand that indie films often have extremely limited budgets, but that's no excuse for such a poor script. Paper is not expensive. A tripod costs a bit more but any self-respecting cameraman should have one already. But then comes the sticky subject of rehearsal time for the cast. Perhaps if they'd read their lines a few times before filming it may have helped. It seems that a low budget is being used as an excuse for impatience and a desire to get the filming over with as soon as possible.

You only wasted $5 on a rental. I bought the DVD. I watched it last night and it is now in a box reserved for "movies I'll never want to watch again".

I have to agree with Myst. For one, the plot made no sense whatsoever. They get caught stealing weed, the farmer tells them hes going to kill them if they dont bring him women to kill, and then he LETS THEM GO - and they actually find a girl and COME BACK! They could have gotten into the car and sped away and never saw the old fart again. This fact made me immediately hate this film.

BUT I have to say that the writer/director of this film is most obviously one of the biggest misogynists ever to pen a screenplay. It is obvious that he feels that the correct way to refer to a woman is either "bitch, C-word or slut", and he actually expects us to believe that that is the character talking, and the character only. Yeah right. He has deep-seated issues with women, wheter he comes to this board to defend himself or not. He needs to seek out counseling, learn the facts about women and equal rights, and hopefully then he won't die a frustrated virgin, with a burning hatred for the female population. GET HELP, dude, and until then - stop writing screenplays! How Debbie Rochon read this piece of trash and decided to actually lend her name to it is beyond me, and quite frankly, has made my respect for her as not only an actress, but a human being as well, plummet downhill faster than a rollercoaster.

I've taken the liberty of writing some new dialogue for Bud to account for the previous post:

Bud: "Good evening, Ms. Conrad. Welcome to my humble home. Too chilly? Wait, let me turn up the thermostat. I've asked you to join me here today because I've admired your intelligence and personal strengths, and was hoping that by getting to know you better, and trying in my small way to emulate you, that I might improve myself, and perhaps, someday, gain a small measure of the respect I have for you. Are the manacles comfortable? Good. Lovely underwear you're wearing tonight. I see you're anxious. Let me inject you with this drug to help relax you. Better? I'm so pleased. Pardon me for a few moments while I rape and dismember the other fine young woman in the next cell. While I'm gone, please give some thought to how you might like me to force myself on you. I want to make sure that this experience is as pleasurable for you as I can accomplish. What's that you say? You appreciate the respectful way in which I address you? Oh, please, it's my pleasure. I certainly wouldn't want to express myself in a manner which might lead you to think of me as a low-life psycho hillbilly nut job. That would make for a very unrealistic cinematic impression, don't you agree?"

BTW, B.... if you find the dialogue misogynistic, what on earth are you doing watching a movie like this? I mean, what were you thinking??

"Manos: The Hands of Fate" is much, much worse. I thought this film was a solid and satisfying slice of Southern-friend backwoods sleaze.
