There are the occasional blunt passangers, most are very polite though

it's cultural thing I guess. i'm down here in the South and my friends that moved here from NY always talk about how much slower things are down here than in NY.

New Yorkers have a reputation for being direct and to the point. That does not mean they are not nice or charming.
Its that man again!!
Naturally you can find every possible type of personality in NYC. But generally there is a tendency for New Yorkers to be abrupt and bluntly honest, except about themselves. East coasters are classicaly in denial about their own faults and problems.

I've never lived in New York, but I visited an uncle who does live there just over 10 years ago and I can't say I picked up on any bad attitude in the city during the week I stayed with him.
