Would you vote for this Mayor? (spoilers)

He's keen to let everyone get to work on this, even when he himself is racing against time.
He cleaned up Wall Street from financial criminals.
He's big on the benefits of public transport.
He works for just a dollar a year.
And he's genuinely warm towards Washington's character.

On the other hand...

He could have put his foot down in the control room and at least offered to swap his place with all the hostages, even though we know Ryder wouldn't have taken it.
He also cheated on his wife, which he calls his 'one mistake', but in the real world that one mistake often affects political careers. Plus when asked, he doesn't seem to regret it.

Thumbs up or thumbs down for this Mayor?

On balance, I think I'd vote for him.

I would. In the original movie, they wrote him to be a moron. In this one he isn't completely clean, but which politician is? At least he's smart. I mean, he's the one who solves the mysteries (and not GARBER like in the original).

He could have put his foot down in the control room and at least offered to swap his place with all the hostages, even though we know Ryder wouldn't have taken it.

What would be the point of that? He already knew what they wanted: money. And they wanted him to get them that money.
