Why The Hell Does IMDB...

...take me directly to the page for this movie when i search The Taking of Pelham 123? I ain't interested in this one. I want to look up the original.

I accept my idiocy. In my defence though, it's still quite pedantic that it doesn't even give the option of choosing the original.

Because the original is called The Taking of Pelham One Two Three. If you spell it correctly, IMDb takes you right there and does not even bother to show you this one.

IMDb's search engine tends to be a bit quirky. The original spelled out the "One Two Three" rather than using numerals so that probably explains why you got routed to the wrong picture. Though I do agree that the search engine should have taken you to a page where you could choose the one you wanted; I myself had forgotten that the title of the original was spelled out in words.
