How hard is it to have fun at a movie, really?

I find it telling that people who enjoyed it had no preconceived notions from seeing the original Pelham. It must be hard to see what was a great movie to you transformed into a different beast. But I say that the biggest sin any adaptation can make is to do a 1:1 representation of its subject.

Simply put, this wasn't "The Taking of Pelham", this was a Tony Scott film dealing with a hostage situation on the New York subway.

To me the movie fires on all the right pistons: Character, Drama, Pace, Sound, Image. I'm not looking for logical inconsistencies or faithfulness to source material, I'm looking to be entertained. On that front, Tony's Pelham delivers in spades. If I wanted those other things I would watch your boring home movies chronicling your vacation to the Poconos or something.

Now, just consider the user rating disparity between this and Die Hard With a Vengeance, which I also give a 10. Are you saying that that movie was any more credible? In Vengeance we have a tow cable attached to a ship slowly doling out line. We have a truck loaded with gold surfing on top of water, water which Willis was able to run from. But WHO CARES. It friggin rocked, right? So does Pelham.
