This show was horrible. First of all, it had NOTHING to do with choirs, it was just a glorified American Idol competition - with back up singers, which were all pre-recorded. The lead singers were live, but that was all. The celebrity "conductors" were just figure heads, any of the actual singing, training, recording sessions were all conducted by professionals in the industry earlier in the week. Don't be fooled by clever TV productions - 90% of all live-to-air music productions are lip-synced.
Disagree all you like - what you heard was prerecorded. They were singing live, yes, but no producer of a live TV show would risk an all out "live" performance without "sweetening" the sound with prerecorded tracks, which is all you hear on the TV, in the studio it would sound quite different. All of this could be done without the choirs knowledge.
I'm not saying this to be controversial - I'm in the industry - it's all done like this (note the ear monitors in the "conductors" ears ... that's the "click track". Keeps it all together. Otherwise it would make for VERY BAD TV (as opposed to the moderately horrible TV it already was).
Oh well, they'll make millions on it, that's what's important I guess.
I watched all four episodes (and have rewatched quite a few of the performances) and noted several places that weren't right that would easily have been fixed by sweetening - places that I though were normal for a non professional choir to be weak.
Or maybe they just left those in so people think it's not sweetened?
Of course they were singing live onstage. What people have said in this thread is, that's NOT exactly what the TV viewer heard.
Lachey's team didn't exist before this show - so no, they weren't "the most recogniseable" and that's not why they won... although Patti's unlikeability probably DID have something to do with her loss.
Oh and why can't you give details? The show's been aired. Nobody cares what you did at this point... sounds like you're just putting on airs.
This show reminded me of a production my college does every year. All the group singing is pre-recorded. We sang live onstage during the performance along with a backup recording to make it sound super good.
One thing though...if it was all pre-recorded then why did they *still* sound like crap? You'd think they would've, ya know, fixed that.
"I'll use small words so that you'll be sure to understand, you warthog-faced buffoon."
