Don't really get the love for this

The cute bear from darkest Peru ends up in London and with a family lead by the over-protective Hugh Bonneville. All kinds of manic antics ensue etc.
I thought from the reviews I had read there'd be a bit more to this to be honest. The accident prone bears antics and the skewed London was endearing for about 30 minutes but started to wear out it's welcome for me quite quickly. I'm surprised at how quickly actually as I thought it was supposed to be excellent, however it was predictable with Nicole Kidman's villain, full of cartoonish lunacy, and a few sad bits for toddler tears. Certainly kids would love it however not much here for adults, other than seeing what Lord Grantham would look like if he was Mrs. Brown (strange as his name is Henry Brown in this). 6/10

I am a massive Breaking Bad fan. And Paddington had me in tears.

reply

It was OK. As bears go in films I've seen worse. Yogi Bear, now that was worse. Open Season was probably better though.

No one is holding a gun to your head and saying,
"Like this film or else!"

You didn't like it, that's fine.

6/10 = OK. Which means I didn't hate it but I didn't love it. i.e. I liked it but don't think it's as good as people were making out. Didn't you read my review summeriris?

reply

No, I didn't.

That's your problem then.

reply

I was disappointed with it as well. I expected it to be great as the reviews were glowing.

I love fun little family movies like this...but this one was just okay. It's not terrible but it was extremely overrated by the critics...just like The Lego Movie.

Difference is I would watch this again and I would not watch Lego again unless I wanted another migraine.

=Last time I taught, I was like Robin Williams in Dead Poets Society...by which I mean I got fired=

reply

Agree with you about The Lego Movie..what a pile of crap. Paddington was certainly better than that hyperactive nonsense.

Lego movie was far better. At least its jokes were original.

Make your mined up, was it just ok or do you love movies like this?

Gee whiz.

reply

I couldn't agree more. From the rave reviews this had received I was hoping for something that was actually different but found it to be very "Meh" overall.

reply

Agreed. My family and I found this pretty tedious. It's a terribly inconsistent film that never makes up it's mind what it wants to be.

reply

I thought it was a decent movie, but it a lot of plot retreads and clichés. The jokes are what made me give this movie a 7, but it's certainly not a masterpiece or anything.

well, the books on which it is very loosely. based are aimed at young children. but they don't really have a plot, they are just a series of comic incidents with Paddington getting into muddles but somehow always coming out on top. I suppose the fiommakers had to think up some kind of plot to carry the film along. i agree it's not a very good one.
