Kill Switch is fantastic!

I just watched the DVD and it's even better than I expected it to be. Steven Seagal and Chris Thomas King are first rate in this psychological thriller. The bluesy soundtrack and Memphis setting are perfect for this dark crime drama. I've been looking forward to seeing the finished product since filming began last fall and it was worth the wait.

Kill Switch is a winner!

So what are the differences to the screener? Anything noticable?
Are the fight scenes still as long?
Is Seagal's double still in more fight scenes than Seagal himself?
Does the plot make more sense now?
Is the clown eating scene still there? (liked that one, lol)

i loved it too, some people expect too much honestly

I didn't see a lot of difference between the screener and the final version except that I noticed only one scene that was shot from a variety of angles and that was when Steven's character kicked Billy Joe out the window. The lines in that scene are so good: "Storm, I think I dropped something." "I think that guy's got the hiccups. Get him a glass of water." In my opinion, if the studio had let Steven's straightforward editing stand instead of attempting to make it more exciting (as one of the people involved in the second editing told me they tried to do), it would have been great.

The fight scenes are still long, but honestly, I didn't see the double as being distracting or too obvious. And yes, the plot really came together for me.

Steven's character is so tramutized by seeing his little brother killed that he is driven to hunt down serial killers. His code of justice is brutal by legal standards -- it's more in keeping with "An eye for an eye..." than what society accepts -- but given the killers' senseless murders of innocent people and his own torment, I could see how he felt that any means of getting them off the streets was justified.

I've also heard a lot of people complain about the final scene not fitting the rest of the story. I think he was so afraid that his own children might be targeted as his twin brother was that he keeps his family a secret, living in a safe place well away from anything connected with his work. (Maybe even in another country?)

Yes, the clown scene is still there, and it's one of my favorite parts of the movie, too. I knew Chris Thomas King was good, but he really pulled that one off perfectly. :)

I don't really understand all the criticism of this movie. I watch a lot of films and I love it. Except for that one scene I mentioned that is a little overedited, I saw absolutely nothing wrong with it and a LOT to like about it.

I think a lot of people will enjoy it.

Sold!
Thank you for your many words.

I hope Seagal can keep up this line of quality work that started with Urban Justice.

Nothing. Wrong. With. It?? Really? REALLY? You gots to be kidding, m'friend.
The first half of the film is technically inept and the second half makes no sense at all as a story (the "leaving a note" bit and the "let's get a naked chick onscreen for no reason" bit both smacked of "we've run out of money, but we still have to get some boobs on the screen).
A laughably horrible flick!
Though I have to admit that I do have this feeling that this may have been a passable flick before it was butchered in editing (I still think it plays like two unrelated episodes of a TV series edited together).

Dude, there is no way in hell this movie is good.

Anyone believe this nutjob?

Good movie. Horrible fight double.

Agreed. But Seagal is racing against time, now. He is getting old, which means we hardly gonna see him in action like his earlier movies.

reply

terrible film....Seagal from what i saw never did any fight scenes. They would cut a clip of his face in and out mixed in with film of the stunt doubles back while fighting. On top of that it had a terrible writer cause the ending made no freakin sense and his southern cajun accent was sooo bad. I'm gonna watch Marked for Death now so i can get some respect back for Seagal.

reply

boomerbengal, I respect your right to your own opinion as I do everyone else's. I helped with promotion on this film and was in contact with the studio and with one of the people involved in the final edit. Steven wrote the script himself and it is a very good story. The problem is that after the filming and Steven's editing of the movie was completed, the studio had the film re-edited. Steven had only one stunt double and he actually did most of the fights himself originally. A lot was changed in the final edit.

Well, no disrespect intended, SRP, but the rest of us here have to judge the film by the end result, not the intention. And there's not much doubt that if Kill Switch/A Higher Form of Learning was a good film at one stage in the game--it no longer is. Perhaps a Segal cut will come out at some time and we can all feel different. (and maybe they'll come out with the original cut of Attack Force as well, Alien Queen and all).

reply

Well when I see a Segals version maybe...and its a BIG maybe I will change my mind but the end result of Kill Switch was crap. I did enjoy his other film I recently rented called Pistol Whipped and I suggest other Segal fans should check it out if they have not already.

reply

All I can say is wow. You actually think this movie is good and Executive Decision is not? I just can't find the words dude. You have to be throwing that out as shock value.

HOW THE *beep* DID THIS MOVIE GET MADE? IT IS THE WORSE PIECE OF *beep* I HAVE EVER SEEN AND I LIKE STEVEN.

Kill Switch is a winner!

Where can someone get more of the stuff you've been smoking?

Anything that could induce such a reaction must be some killer s*@*t!

I was unfortunately not under the influence when I saw this movie, consequently was forced to recognize it for what it was.....CRAP!

If blockbuster online had a semi-decent or current selection I would have never stepped in this pile of cinema.

Sorry, I've been on a Seagal marathon and this is by far one of his worst movies. This is even worse than Urban Justice. The story started out like a standard serial killer flick with two villains. Had the potential to be a good plot with a showdown with Seagal fighting both of them at the same time or realizing one was a copycat or something but they botched the whole thing and it just looked like random chaos onscreen.

The stunt doubles were obvious. The sloppy editing ruined the fight scenes. I can't believe they used that old Van Damme technique of showing the same punch or fall three times or more in a row. Each edit was less than 1.5 seconds and you could obviously see all the stunt doubles for every actor. On top of that, each villain took at least 20 punches, elbow slams and kicks from Seagal and then continued to get up for more even after being kicked and thrown through tables and doors. Even in the worst of b movies, no one is taking that many blows much less from Seagal who could have taken them down in two or three moves, even in his paunchy state. One guy even re-grew teeth after losing them on a countertop. Don't say it's for entertainment cuz it's not entertaining, it's tedious. This is the first time I've ever fast forwarded through fight scenes. They should have let the FBI agent fight show some more of her moves. Would have given the movie a little more variety.

I must have missed something cuz I don't remember him mentioning he had a wife and kids. Then it turns into a bad video at the end with Seagal singing the final tune while wifey strips.

That bad southern 'hood accent he's been using in his recent movies has to go.

Please someone tell me if this film is that bad:) I know all his films are cheesy, corny and whatever you want to call em but i am always up for a good laugh:)

PS: I don't know when Channel 5 (U.K) will be showing this:)

It's one of those movies that's so bad it's good, it's what you'd expect from a straight to video release. Watch it and have a good laugh, I did LOL!!
