Beautiful, authentic, a work of art

This film contrasts strongly with most films on release. It's made by an intelligent artist expressing emotions, not a company looking to make money.

The pace is calm, almost meditative in parts. There are awkward silences that give you time and space to work out what they are (or might be) thinking, with no irritating background music influencing you. Visually, it's serenely beautiful, and many, many scenes are pure works of art. Look out for the still life round the pool with indoor argument soundtrack - it's wonderfully, quirkily funny, Hitchcock would have adored it.

After it finished I felt as if I'd read a really engrossing novel, that my imagination had been properly engaged. Strongly recommended.

I agree. What a wonderful film - Joanna Hogg is clearly very talented. Some of those shots were breath-taking in their beauty but it was all filmed in such an understated and naturalistic way that they never felt picture-postcard. If Ms Hogg was French she'd be showered with awards and money but, alas, the UK film industry is so small that I fear that she won't get the chance to show us what else she can do. Good luck to her anyway, and what a brilliant first film.
