This film seems to have rave reviews everywhere. Yes the dialogue was excellent and realistic, and the setting was great, but never have I seen a film where the characters were so universally dislikeable. They all seeemd to be posh toffs, unaware of decent behaviour to others to Asperger levels, and always shouting when they weren't getting drunk/stoned. Even Anna was a wet drip; she had no energy or life to her. Very boring woman with an unpleasant crowd.
shareI think the whole point is that the characters were horrible, and that is what makes this an unpleasant view for its target audience. Joanna Hogg really hits the spot.

Except that Joanna Hogg was actually writing about herself. The character of Anna represents her - Hogg was expressing her own feelings about having lost the opportunity to have children.

Is that not normal because Americans are like that all the time when drunk or high. I didn't mind that, I actually found them to be down to earth. Anna wasn't really boring, just an older woman trying to hang with the young people, which often can make you the quieter person.
