How bad is this? I want to see it.

I watched "Giallo" last week, and it's actually pretty good. It's not as scary as Argento's older, more famous movies, but it is still graphic with it's imagery. "Giallo" is a blood-soaked suspense/horror movie that is tilted more toward the suspense category, and it seems to be more focused than previous Argento films. It has the style of cinematography that is synonymous with Argento films. I don't understand the dislike for this film that some people have.

It is really, really, reaaly bad.

Oh it's bad. I mean going-to-the-dentist-for-root-canal-surgery-without-anaesthetic BAD. For one thing, Brody plays a character who murders a butcher in cold blood as a young teenager in a revenge-killing which is witnessed by the chief of police who, wait for it, lets him get away with it and gives him a job as a POLICEMAN hunting serial killers. Yes, I did just write that. If that isn't enough to horrify you into avoiding this pile of garbage like the plague then nothing will.

Cinematography? They had one on this? It was lit with all the atmosphere of an episode of MATLOCK.
Flat beige. I should give credit where it's due maybe. Its got to take skill to make Italy look that bad.

It has its moments and is not as good as Sleepless, but i enjoy it more than The Card Player. The gore is especially awesome and helps make up for the under drawn characters and cheesy villain. It also is a very brisk movie and surprisingly doesn't drag much.

It's pretty good, everything from the music, atmosphere, and performances. I have no idea what everyone's problem with it is.

I just watched this film and I found it terrible. Now I find Dracula 3d by far the worst Argento film however this is a close second.

The story was ok but some of the execution of the film was quite off.

I like the main actors but I found it lacking the typical Argento atmosphere, tension, tropes, music and constantly found myself asking why wouldn't the victims do this or do that.

Now I know its some what typical to expect the victims to lack 20/20 hindsight even in Dario's previous films but this is a new level of stupidity on the main victim's part.

The mystery in one of his Giallo films is lacking here and perhaps it is because he did not write it. To me it lacks the intrigue and short changes the look and feel of a Dario Argento film.

We get a bit of that "classic" look of vibrant color but not enough and the typical slick camera work is now very static.

This film to me is on par with the card player. However the difference is there is a mystery as to who the killer is and that keeps the plot moving. Here the plot has interesting parts but its muddled in its approach.

Of course when you compare this to his greatest films of the genre like deep red for example it is not even a contest. Even his later films like Trauma and Sleepless are far superior Giallo films.

I would suggest skipping this one myself and watch a great Argento film.
