Cutlass is a Family Affair, and Chevy is always the brunt of bad press

Kate Hudson is the director. She is directing her stepfather Kurt Russell as the father with the mustache and longtime family friend Chevy Chase in a cameo as an auto mechanic. But hold on. Ten years before, I heard this vicious rumor that Kate Hudson's mother Goldie Hawn dumped Chevy Chase as a friend due to some quarrel, if they really had one. That supposed quarrel preceded Goldie Hawn's February 1997 gala in her honor at the Waldorf, and Chevy, who would have been a presenter, couldn't come because Goldie didn't want him there. Perhaps something else got in Chevy's way.

And get this. Chevy did show up at the Waldorf in 2000 for the gala honoring Steve Martin, who is definitely a mutual friend of Goldie and Chevy. Goldie, for whatever reason, didn't attend. The same friend who went to Goldie's gala before and gave me that "misinformation" told me that she saw Chevy. She said he was very nice, so it would be hard to believe that he could treat Goldie like dirt. Too many terrible things have been said about Chevy for no reason.

Now Fast forward to 2007. Chevy still says that he and Goldie are great friends in press clippings and in the book "I'm Chevy Chase and You're Not." Goldie cites Chevy as her favorite male costar of all time and the one who made her laugh the hardest. Chevy and Kate kiss and hug each other in numerous publicity pics. Would Goldie want to see her daughter kissing a longtime friend turned sworn enemy? Would Kurt want to act with Chevy if he suddenly really made Goldie's life so miserable? Would Kate want to direct Chevy if he really is that sworn enemy of her mother?

The whole rumor made absolutely no sense to me. I really don't think Goldie and Chevy ever burnt bridges even once, but like in many close frienships, there can always be a squabble and differences are resolvable, but it would be foolish to burn bridges if by that time, the friendship reached 20 years, now 31 years and still counting. Has anyone else heard about Goldie and Chevy breaking up a strong friendship if that really did happen? Does anyone have any input on this urban legend?

I got so tired of this stupid rumor I finally had the guts to go back to my coworker to reassure me if this was truth or rumor when I told her about my sister's hairdresser recently telling my sister that she met Chevy in a record store and everything went well with a five to ten-minute laugh-filled conversation. My coworker definitely agreed the story of the broken friendship is a rumor spread by some Chevy-hater at the Waldorf looking for attention.

"She said he was very nice, so it would be hard to believe that he could treat Goldie like dirt."

A friend of mine shot a commercial for that interview show Chase did. To put it politely, he said Chase was not a nice guy. For what it's worth...
