First one or second one?

Now that I finally got to see the second one like everyone else, which OS movie did you like better? The first or second one?

I personally thought the first one was a lot better and I think everyone would agree too if they thought the sequel was bad too in their own point of view.

I actually have to say I prefer the second movie over the first one. Now before you claw my eyes out let me tell you why. For a direct-to-video sequel, it felt stronger than most. Compare it to most disney direct-to-video sequels, prequels and inbetweenquels and it is better than most.

First off, one shouldn't have so many expectations for a direct-to-video sequel. You will always end up disappointed for the most part. I went in expecting very little out of this movie but I was laughing throughout it the whole time.

Open Season never was the best computer animated film of all time (neither was Surf's Up). It's storyline was weak at times. The supporting characters took the spotlight from Boog and Elliot. There was overdone crude humor in the film, we all had the unpleasure to watch Elliot take a crap in the middle of the movie. There were times when its animation was good and there was times when the backgrounds looked like some child's drawings. It actually didn't need to have a sequel, however Sony gave us a direct-to-video sequel. This movie had some of the same problems as the first movie did animation wise, however, I felt that the voice cast (Mike Epps and Joel McHale did a good job replacing Martin Lawrence and Ashton Kutcher - the guy's so annoying at times that I just want to punch him out at times - and actually brought more life to the characters) and some of the jokes and innuendo (there actually was a lot of it) and visual gags more than made up for it.

My main complaint is the design of Fifi. He looked kind of awkward. But, Crispin Glover provided his voice and did a damn good job.

In other words, Open Season 2 was a start in the right direction. I hope the rumored third movie is also at least as good as the second. Hell, Open Season 2 was better than Shrek the Third and Hoodwinked. And most people are going to kill me for saying this, but I enjoyed Open Season 2 more than Ratatouilee (which was boring as hell and the animation was rushed and shoddy looking at times) and funnier than Wall-E (though Wall-E is better overall).

Opinons are all that matters Brooks. I'm afraid to say this but I'm gonna have to disaagree with you at some starters. First off, the sequel didn't get a lot of good reviews before it came out in California where I am so I can't agrue over that part because it doesn't suprirse me since the first Open Season made about $190 million at the box office (That's a low rate, but a good start to make a bunch of money)

Second, the story was very weak because you got Elliot getting married to the very last character that neither one of us or anyone would ever think of and the fact that it was focus on Mr. Weenie, that's as half more as disapointing than that will ever because I like Boog and Elliot more. They're the best characters in Open Season. The sequel kills the touch the first one had to bring.

The only part I can agree with you was Crispin Glover's performance as Fifi. His voice was perfect for him, but the character himself freak me out too much! I think Shaw made a better villian than Fifi was.

Open Season 1 good
Open Season 2 NOT good!

I understand what you're saying and I will respect that. The $190 million is quite impressive (for one of its budget anyway), but compare it to a lot of other animated films. I'm not saying I hated Open Season. I enjoyed the first for what it was.

Boog and Elliot were a big part of the first movie. But the supporting characters was what made me remember the movie the most. The sequel does just that as well as well as the new characters.

But in the end, a movie is a movie. They are meant to entertain. Even direct-to-video sequels have to follow that rule. This sequel did that. It's not close to perfect, but it was solid enough. They also didn't go full child friendly with it. Some of the innuendo in this movie is surprising that they got away with.

Yeah, I'll give you that Shaw makes a better villain than Fifi. The scene that stood out in the first was when Boog was in Shaw's cabin. Fifi overacts over the situation. Shaw just wants to shoot and kill.

To add on

I did like the way they ended up dealing with Fifi. It's such a Disney like/Looney Tunes moment.

Though the whole Close to You musical moment I could've done without.

OMG yes! The ending I could of done without! The singing was BAD but I did like the song (from the orginal artist) I've heard some rumors from my friends about a third one, but it's most likely not gonna happen...well not to me.

Open Season 1 good
Open Season 2 NOT good!

I like them both though Open Season 2 had a pretty typical storyline, 2 was OK I loved Roger the retarded cat he made that movie for me.

reply

I can see where you were going from that "typical storyline" part. The whole holding-off-the-marrige-thing-for-something-else idea has been used to many times. I've seen that happen before in Mulan II and Brother Bear 2. Can get quite annoying! If they try using that same idea again, I think I like it more if they show us that marriages won't always work out at the final end, not that I hate those ideas or anything but it's the same crap everytime! A few minor changes wouldn't hurt a bit!

I am who I am, you can't change that!

reply

well its that and there is also the one character gets lost and all the other characters have to rescue him/her cliche.

reply

I think you were talking about the plot from Open Season 2 cause I was talking about the idea where everytime there's a wedding ceremony getting ready, it's always on hold because something came up. Lemmie put it this way; in Mulan II, Mulan and Shang are about to get married, but they had to save it for later when they had to send the emepror's daughters far to some other kingdom or whatever to marry some other emperor's sons (They never really met them before, but the princesses wind up falling for Yao, Ling and Chein-Po) but Mulan and Shang still get married at the end when their mission was over, so that's no big deal to me.

Then in Brother Bear 2, Kenai's childhood friend Nita was going to get married to some charming guy named Atka but the spirits couldn't let them get together right away til Nita had to journey with Kenai (including Koda) to go to Kaoni Falls
and burn a stupid necklace Kenai gave to Nita when they were kids (pointless ain't it? I wouldn't destory some special gift I got from a friend even if I was force or paid to do it!) but...stupid Disney got them together AFTER the amulet was burned and Nita ditched Atka for Kenai (they had a big battle at the village) and got turned into a bear before marrying Kenai.

Open Season 2 has that same story idea going on, expect there's always a small twist to them. And they still don't match up with the orginal plot ideas to the first ones!!

reply

the 2nd one was funnier, even though it has a weaker story.

the story of the first one wasnt anything special, but better than the second one. i just didnt find the first one that funny, or special in any way. in fact the first one could have went straight to dvd, but it had somewhat big names at the time. still didnt make the movie any better though.

soooo, because the second one at least made me laugh, i have to give the edge to the second one.

also i recommend not watching the second one, until you have seen the first one if you can.

reply

The first one without a shadow of a doubt.

reply

I agree. The original Open Season was way better than the second. The animation, story and cast was better in the original, and I also think the characters were portrayed better in the first Open Season.

reply

first one is on a different plane.

To be honest, I prefer the second and third to the original--which is okay. The sequels were just far more memorable to me, if only because they're so hilarious and goofy.

yea definitely the first one,, I think the writers took the day off when they wrote this one..
