awesome first half, ruined by clarke's character

First I'd like to say i really enjoyed the first 45 minutes of this before it completely derailed. I didn't perceive this from the description as a buddy picture, but rather a black sheep film. It really should have been about Danielle being a funny sassy slut in an unforgiving small home town, and instead it focused on a preachy gay coming of age cliche. Why was it called "Dirty Girl" when it should have been called "Fat Gay Kid Makes it all About Him". I couldn't help but cringe during the whole hitchhiker drive-in dance thing and i felt so much shame and embarrassment for the movie as a whole when the Clarke entered the gay stripping contest. Any real gay bar would have given her way more tips just on kitsch factor instead of encouraging the gay guy in his wet grey t-shirt dress. I think this movie has some really fantastic elements and a great cast but should have been more about her.

I agree. They could learn a thing or two from Gregg Araki when it comes to make realistic and likable gay characters, this one didn't seem to be either (to me).

Don't you get it? Love conqeurs all!

i thought the clarke character was likable. the two of them fit well together, both misfits in their own way.

Yeah, I agree, but I'm not sure it's great even half way through. I love Juno, and she's excellent. The Clarke character, and his family, were just annoying. I could have done without that entire thing. Should have just been Danielle (Juno) off on her own to meet her dad. The title and poster art sure is deceiving.
