Care in the Community?

Hopefully this film will draw attention to the plight of mentally ill people who are expected to cope in the greater community.

care in the commuinty or care in an locked ward. Service users tend to prefer treatment at home rather than hospital.

need more nurses and more talking treatments though

There is a preference for people being cared for as far as possible in the community with hospital admission only for more serious cases where there is a risk of harm to themselves or others. There are many services such as day therapy, support groups, care from support workers, CPN's, social services etc to enable people to live independently in the community. Even in mental health units not all wards are locked, it depends on the severity of patients issues and not all patients are on a section, some are voluntary, meaning they can discharge themselves at any time (with advice and support) and come and go to a certain extent.
