is this going to be broadcasted in the US?

This mini series looks incredible and I was wondering if anyone knew if it would be shown here in the US??

Burn Up is being distributed by Alchemy Television, an American distributor. Chances are good that it will come to the US....sometime. Meanwhile it will have its premiere on Canadian TV on June 10th and the BBC just announced it will broadcast it in July in the UK.

Thanks so much!

Bad news for American viewers:

While "Burn Up" will air here on Global and in the U.K. on BBC, it has yet to land an American network deal. The subject matter likely cuts a little to close to the bone during a U.S. presidential election year when gas prices are soaring and American car companies - especially those that sponsor TV shows - are hurting.

"Networks are sometimes afraid of these topics depending on where their politics are," she says. "When you're making a piece like this, there's got to be balance. You want to give adequate and accurate information and not feel that it is just sensationalist."

The above is an excerpt from an interview with Neve Campbell for a Canadian Newspaper.

HBO isn't afraid of controversial topics. This would be a great show for them to broadcast. We can hope!

After watching this, I know this will never be broadcast in the US. The only network that may touch this is HBO.

It will be on the BBC iPlayer for the next week, and as far as I am aware, anyone can watch it from the BBC website.

I thought the idea that US network TV will not show controversial drama is a dated cliche.

Have I just been watching too much HBO?

That and Bradley Whitford's character said *beep* last night!!

As far as I know, only users with UK IP addresses can access the iPlayer.

reply

You are correct. I tried to watch Burn Up from where I am in the US, and the BBC iPlayer programs are only available in the UK. I gather it is a legal issue, and more to do with BBC/UK content than anything else. Someone mentioned the fact that in UK there is a TV user fee/tax, yet another hurdle for the export of UK content over the internet.

reply

I do hope so, the U.S. NEEDS to see this
