World Premiere

Just came back from the world Premiere here in Calgary and I was pleasently surprised. had some very funny moments, and some really clever dialog. Okay it's not sheer genius comedy, and it wasn't perfect but It was a pleasent diversion. Grant Harvey said he wanted to do a "Harold Ramis" type action/comedy, and I think he has succeeded in a lot of ways. It's a quirky yet accessible comedy that works well and doesn't go over the top. Parts of it reminded me of "Mars Attacks" with a similar sense to humour regarding the alien invasion.

Lots of very Canadian jokes, (and I mean that in a good way, Sarain Boyland listing off the hockey players she's "dated" was realy clever) The ending was a tad predictable and a tad bit cheesy, but the characters were funny and likeable. A nice piece of casting with The 'Fubar' guys. Quite well cast, and it might be some of Tom Green's best work. So much of his work is kind of vulgar and a little over the top, he actually seemed to pull back a bit, and it worked well.

I wouldn't call it a must see, but it's very funny. Hopefully they find a good distributor and it gets picked up for theatrical release in '09.

Good little movie.
