I agree. Like community theater gone wrong. I only watched the first episode, and IMHO the acting was horrible, and whoever writes the dialogue should be punished.

reply

Where did you watch the episode i have been looking all over. I don't live in canada but im a huge linda hamilton fan and want to watch jujst for her.

reply

I saw it last night, and it's horrible. And the dialog, dammit! An example would be the scene with the Vietnamese, with Carlos and his crew were on his restaurant, he asked why is there no food on their table, then he asked for it, he said "Pagkain nga dito", that is Filipino!!! Not Vietnamese! Stupid scriptwriters!

Shoot me again, I ain't dead yet...

reply

I couldn't help thinking of "the wire" parody..

reply

The language confusion was deliberate. Eddie and his crew are Filipinos pretending to be Vietnamese because they think it's more intimidating. It's actually pretty close to real life how these guys act because most of them are morons who can't function in regular society so they end up as criminals. Prisons are full of idiots with poor impulse control.

reply

You know nothing .

reply

Agreed. Horrible.

reply

I disagree with you who say it's appalling and guess you're missing the fine line between the drama and humor. While The Wire (overrated, as The Shield is the best police drama ever of its time)The Line can be seen as its slightly, lighter counterpart. I cracked up at the tough-taking drugs dealer, Carlos (Cle Bennett) who can verbally abuse girlfriends but can't stand up to a local vicious drugs dealer and is prone to accidents! Yes, it reads like a Police Squad send up in ways, but thanks to strong acting, it actually works. Plus, we have the gorgeous Sharon Lawrence still looking HOT after her NYPD Blue days and great support from Ron White & Daniel Kash as a mismatched pair of cops. In fact, the rest of the ensemble are just as good and I for one, am looking fwd to the next episode.

It's good to see that Canadian film & drama is trouncing on some of the tried-and-tested US stuff..Cavemen, anyone?

The wire is overrated and this is well acted. You sir, are a genius!

reply

Yes, but The Wire is really, really dull!Whatever happened to entertaining people?

reply

The Wire is overrated, Season 1 was awesome but anything after that was a bit dull.
The Shield is easily the best cop show ever done.

Actually, I liked Hill Street Blues a LOT better than The Shield.

reply

Appalling? I guess to those who prefer CSI, Law & Order and all the other dumbed down crap that gears toward the general pubic.

If you like good acting, storytelling, directing then you would like this show. Basically if you think this show is appalling then you either are and idiot with no taste or you are self-righteous and think that all cops have stellar morals. Either way stop posting because your brain wastes valuable oxygen.

AS a canadian,
The US kicks our a$$ when it comes to any form of Action or Drama and especially crime shows. We make some of the worst TV on the planet, bad production values, god awful dialog. Talented Canadians (and their are many) move to the states, that why what gets produced here, is usually no better than a "C".

"You bled my Momma, You bled my Popa, Won't bleed ME!"

reply

Well said, Critterish. Canadian media is embarrassing. Books, movies, TV shows, most of what comes from here is so mediocre and poorly developed. Outlets brag about how distinctively Canadian it all is, but most of our productions are just American knock-offs.

reply

"Well acted" The Line? really YOur saying "The Line" the show on this message board is well acted? REally? About as great as DAvinic's whatever and ENG. Sometim

Heh.

Shows like ReGenesis, The Line, The Border, Intelligence, Trailer Park Boys, Corner Gas, and Little Mosque on the Prairie tend to make me think you're wrong. All Canadian shows, most never shown here in the US, and all I've become seriously addicted to. None are Canadian knockoffs of American shows.

reply

Intelligence had great actors, but it petered out early, and was just a typical crime show with Sopranos overtones. I only saw one episode of The Border, but it looked like a poor man's CSI. No offense to our brothers to the North, because much of what is said is true, great talent, but I have yet to see funneled anywhere when Canada exports down south.

I was reading about this show, and I wonder if anyone knows if it was made for Canadians. I've read that much of Canadian television is made to catch a piece of the American market, especially by hiring American actors. This is supposed to have Ed Asner of all people.

reply

This show is dumbed down. The writing is extremely poor, and there's a lot of overacting. The characters are dumb.... literally. The acting is so bad they might as well just say how they feel instead of acting there ever emotion is so obvious.

As for The Wire vs. The Shield, you can't really compare because The Wire isn't just a cop show it's about the city as whole and issues it encounters. Whether that be bureaucracy, drugs, the political system, failure of the education system etc...
