Jon Dore is funny. AIDS isn't.

This is the funniest Canadian show since Kids in The Hall, and I watch it whenever I can find it on. I always find myself laughing uncontrollably, however I have to say I find jokes about AIDS to be jarringly unfunny. I don't really get this as a joke. Do people making jokes about people with AIDS not actually know anyone who is dying from this disease? Jon Dore is funny enough without cracking jokes about something this tragic.

if we got offended by everything in the show that is actually pretty offensive, then the entire show would offend us. its a low brow show that is funny, thats it.

I agree. Of course I didn't say there shouldn't be anything offensive, I said that AIDS isn't funny.

Jokes are funny. AIDS itself is not. But jokes are funny, so jokes about something like rape or AIDS is still funny. Nothing should be "off limits" to make light of. I never take anything so seriously that I can't make fun of it a little.

I personally believe that anything in the world can be funny if you put the right spin on it. Anything. No matter how disturbing and dark and awful it is, it can be hilarious.

AIDS scares the living daylights out of me (I get tested for it twice a year, even though I really don't sleep around much), but my friends and I always joke around about it. I guess because it is so scary and serious, it seems inappropriate to make fun of it. Which makes it even funnier when someone does make fun of it.

I get the feeling you're violating somebody's basic human rights here...

its like how in tragic situations people wil try to distract themselves so they dont have to think about the inevitable of that situation. joking about certain things like this maybe just lightens peoples minds about worrying about getting it, even if its kinda uncomfortable its still very valid because without jokes about some bad things wed be left to worry too much about them. think of jon stewart or colbert, tragic news events will get a comedy spin and make it easier to absorb
