Would I be correct in assuming that you are not enjoying the film?
The great thing about the movie is that there are no good guys, only losers. The senator, the geologist, and the diamond model are all cold snooty bitches, the child soldier (some soldier) is a depraved murderer, the old diamond guy is arrogant and self-righteous, the arab and the russians are, as usual, scumbags, and every African in the movie is obsessed with killing everybody else.
Which leaves us with James Purefoy. As the anti-hero, when compared with the other characters, he becomes the hero. He knows the game, he's as ruthless as everyone else, and he doesn't pretend to be righteous or have some noble or phony humanitarian cause. He just wants to have fun and win the game. After all, blood diamonds aren't bad...it's the people that are bad.
ITA, very disappointing. It will be hard for me to watch the 2nd part on tuesday. If James had been in it more, then maybe I could deal with how BORING it was!
The thing that's bugging me is that the only thing connecting the 3 story lines so far is diamonds and the monopoly that controls them. While diamonds are very pretty and all, I hope they actually intend to show a more substantial connection in part 2. I haven't read the book, so maybe that's coming. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
DO NOT FORGET ABOUT THIS MOVIE. Otherwise, you may accidentally watch it again some day.
Let's see what happened: The pale-faced, crusty senator in her early seventies, who knows nothing about the realities of Africa, will stay in politics so she can influence foreign policy. The geologist with the ratty hair and funny lip...accomplished nothing and has no plans for the future. Her weakness got the blond killed and her callousness almost got the horny digger killed. This segment of the movie was irrelevant to the plot (although I couldn't determine the plot) and could have been deleted.
The model, Luna, was greedy and calculating and quick to hop into the sack with the boss. I assume she returned to Sierra Leone where she could practice her prostitution career. Never forget what Lucas said to her "You took the paycheque".
The government of the Congo turned out to be a bunch of honest good guys. Great news for Africa. Peace and prosperity at last.
The child soldier/serial murderer will now go to school and become an average kid. Until he becomes a terrorist or warlord later in life.
And whatever happened to poor Lucas? The writers probably got so tired of writing a movie that had no plot they merely let him slip away. I wish him well...he was the only honest character in the film.
Awful...well I don't think I would call it awful, but it was kinda boring. I thought that James Purefoy could have chemistry with anyone, but I guess I was wrong. That relationship was blah. The dark haired girl and Denver were more exciting and they could have kept each other warm in freezing Canada, but that went nowhere. The actual story was pretty predictable, though I liked that at the end the kids got out of that life and ended up at a school sponsered by the diamond company.
This must be a Canadian production because I saw many of the same Canadian actors I see in anything/everything made in Canada.

OMG, lol. That happens to me sometimes. I just watched this terrible movie the other night that seemed so damn familiar but I just kept watching. Hopefully, that won't be the case with this film lol.

I agree. I tried my best to watch it, but it was just so boring. It never went anywhere. I didn't care anymore about what happened to who, or who did what. I didn't even bother watching it on Tuesday.
I agree. I Dvr'd Diamonds and it was very slow. I watched it this past Saturday night and I am not sure I will continue the 2nd part. Still thinking about it.
