where does the movie fit in relation to the series

recently started watching the anime series, i'm currently on/around episode 50 and i'm curious as to where this movie fits. is it like the Cowboy Bebop movie where he really has no place in the series and is pretty much a stand alone, or is it more like the Full Metal Alchemist movie where it contains important plot development?

It takes place in between the soul society arc and the bount arc.

aka right after episode 63, and before episode 64 (if you were interested in the specific episode #s).

I believe this would have to take place after the Bount arc. The biggest reason for this is because Ichigo has his bankai back which doesn't return until the middle of the Bount arc. However, for this to take place at this point in the overall story, some things I glaringly see missing are the other mod souls.

As for the Central 46, it's possible they were just replaced (if that's possible?); or, as Darun suggests, it could just be a translation error. But, if you think about it, they were supposed to be kind of like a governing body and there's no reason the Soul Society has to turn into essentially a military state (which they'd be if the 13 Court Guard Squads were left to rule) after the governing body was wiped out. So it makes sense that they would need to be replaced. I don't think the manga ever mentions what happened with that--maybe I'm wrong about this though--but, that's the assumption I made.

It takes place at around the time it was released, which was during the last few episodes of the Bount arc in the anime. Some thing aren't quite the same as they are in the anime, aka Rukia's powers, but it is after all a stand-alone film, not to be confused with any story arc in the anime.

Just watched it today after last night finishing with the Season 6 boxset that finished up the Bount Arc.

I think the movie fits relatively well right when Ichigo goes back to his world after the final battle with the bounts and right before the next group of jackasses shows up to screw with him.

Rukia has her powers back, but there aren't any mod souls except for Kon. Strange that they packed everybody into a 90 minute film but Yourichi is nowhere to be seen.

I'm slightly confused on one thing though about the movie, I just watched the english dubbed version and right near the beginning the bureau of technological developement people are monitoring the situation and they say to report the findings to the central 46....but they're dead....so umm, idk. I know it's after Ichigo's journey to Soul Society because he has that substitute shinigami badge, but I was just wondering if anyone could clarify. So far I'm going with it was just a mixup with the translation.

Where the hell did Waldo go.

It's confusing to think of it as being in between arcs or episodes. It's a standalone story, much like the AMAGAI CAPTAIN arc was in the Anime itself, it's a separate story, and it doesn't connect to any arc.

reply

It's so separated that it was released on dvd in japan in the middle of the ark next to the Bounto one (I just don't say wich ark is it cuse I just finished the Bounto).
So I'm just assuming that the cinema release itsself was right in the end of the Bounto ark (remember when they had this movie's promo in OP and EP when Karyia died?).

And I also like to think it ocurred at this point. As to the other 3 mod souls, they really had no business in the story did they?
