Cities he visits

Okay haven't gotten around to seeing the movie yet, but saw the trailer...does he by any chance go to Sault Ste. Marie or Sudbury??

reply

there is a list of filming locations on the main page. Like most Canadian films/shows it completely ignores Saskatchewan.

reply

Saskatchewan? Where's that? In Alberta?

reply

He's shown at The Big Nickel, but I think the Soo gets neglected. Also, it bugged me that the "Coldest Recorded Temperature" sign in White River was shown before the Wawa goose. They should have shown things in East-West order.

reply

Both! There is a shot of the Big Nickel in Sudbury and some road/traveling shots around Sault Ste Marie and Lake Superior.

The fact they filmed parts in Thunder Bay, Ontario is amazing in itself. Most people in Ontario think that it ends after Barrie. Go figure.

reply

Seriously? No Saskatchewan at all? How is that possible? Did they just go from Manitoba (really? Manitoba and no Saskatchewan?) to Alberta? Like magic?

That annoys me. It's not like its hard to find a highway/road with little traffic to film on. Plus, you know...with the straight flat roads here, it seems like it would be easy to film someone riding a motorcycle (you dont have to worry about hills or winding roads!) and with out people bothering them.

Or do they just film in Manitoba/Alberta and pretend it is Saskatchewan? Maybe its just because I have driven the Edmonton/Saskatoon high way a whole lot,( have in the past, and with my parents living there, will continue to do), but I can tell the difference between Saskatchewan landscape and Alberta landscape easily.

Saskatchewan is not a largely populated province, but so what? We are important damn it! I hate when Canadian movies/tv show productions pretend that we don't exist.

It's typical, don't worry though with Saskatchewan posting the highest GDP growth in North America.. we're already getting our recognition. Unfortunately from CNN! The only media outlets across the country that have something to say about Saskatchewan is MacLeans telling us Saskatoon is Canada's most violent city. It's kind of funny how we're feeling more love from south of the border. Either way I rather have a job and a strong provincial economy than a 2 minute spot in a movie.

Hope the movie was good, I don't need to go... I'm fully entertained watching all the murders and violence outside of my front window, HA!

Saskatchewan is NOT listed as a shooting location, but does feature prominently in the movie.
Ben meets a woman rancher in 'Saskatchewan' and rides a horse with her in the coulees. From a sequencing point of view, this occurs before he encounters the "you are entering Alberta" sign. I'm going from memory so correct me if I'm wrong.

HOWEVER, I'm almost certain that the "Saskatchewan" coulees shown were actually shot in and around Medicine Hat. I grew up there, and spent days wandering those coulees as a kid. But they are quick shots and I could be wrong. Can't wait for the DVD to study them more closely.

I don't think it matters a great deal where the shooting took place; the topography from Lethbridge through Medicine Hat to Maple Creek and Shaunovan is very much the same. In sum, I think Saskatchewan comes off pretty well, even though the shoot was in southeastern Alberta. It's all God's country as far as I'm concerned.

reply

If im not mistaken Medicine Hat has quite a few shots in this movie, was that not the Ranchman Hotel sign off the number one, when hes suppose to be in manatoba, and was that not Tinos in the background when the rancher from Saskatchewan meets her new boyfriend. and then of course theres the teepee shot.
