"Please do not bash Tucson!!! I love Tucson, just because it's not big like Phoenix doesn't mean it's a hell whole."
In fairness, Phoenix is probably worse than Tucson. They don't call it "America's Ugliest City" for no reason (and yes, they really do call it that). I've been to Arizona, twice, including both Phoenix and Tucson, and basically, I'd be inclined to characterize Arizona as "a Hell hole." But the human spirit is such that some people will always love the place where they grew up, and while a certain sort of person will look down on such people as parochial provincials, "hicks," "townies," etc., in reality its a great quality that people are fortunate to have. Healthy, normal people should love the place they grew up in (its called "loyalty," and if someone doesn't have any, there's probably something wrong with them), even if its not a place people who grew up elsewhere would ever desire to live. The protagonist and his wife were not from Tucson, but rather were people who'd moved there, presumably because that's where he found a job opportunity in drama teaching, so they didn't have any emotional bond to the place.
Gamera is really neat! He is made from turtle meat! We've been eating Gamera!
