Nothing new

Saw a preview screening with a q & a today. Not a bad film and never gives away the fact that it only cost £100,00. Looks good and the acting is good, but its totally forgettable and offers nothing new to cinema. Danny Mays character is not interesting in any way and the subject matter has been better handled in Bullet Boy and even Kidulthood.

It is fair to say this film did not say much new but it was a little different in that it seemed more realistic to me than some British crime/social drama films.

These people are losers,in real life these people don't look like they are rich and they don't all drive big cars.

The estate they live on looks ok to me,it is not just inner cities where this crap goes on.
I liked the fact that the criminals were not shown to be heroes.

When I saw the film there was a big group of young men who I think expected a GUY RITCHIE type crime comedy so when it failed to deliver what they expected they walked out.

good movie, very realistic a big thumbs up from me, but did anyone get irritated by the number of times people said "mate"...especially Riz Ahmed's character!!

reply

No mate, it's normal.

Yeah the word 'mate' is pretty much standard UK jargon, like saying buddy, dude, or guy here in the States. If that was your only concern with this film I would say the writer/director did a very good job!

This crap is on BBC2 tonight... for the last few years practically every film shown by BBC2 in a night-time slot has had to be about how tough council estate and/or ethnic minority life is in the UK - usually tediously hand-held affairs that would be about half the running time if the foul language was removed.
