I was wondering this too. Maybe because this is a prequel and he felt he can't play younger Scorpion King. Which makes sense, but lefts me wondering was this originally a sequel to Scorpion King and then when Rock turned this down they decided to make it a prequel. Dunno. I will miss The Rock in the role, but will be secretly looking forward to this. Though it will most likely suck.
