From what I gather, in FES(the direct sequel) the main hero is in a coma and his soul is the the barrier that makes sure that Death cannot destroy the world.

Medically, he's still alive. His soul, however...not home anymore. He's become the wall that prevents Nyx from hearing the pleas from mankind for "peace", which causes her to manifest and kill everything.

In FES, it's revealed on Aigis's part that he actually dies shortly after, but in Persona 4, it's also apparently made known that Elizabeth is no longer with Igor, because she's going to free the MC from P3 from this fate, so who knows... Strangely enough, even though I like darker endings, I'm hoping he's brought back somehow...

Well, I did like Minato more then...uh...whatever Persona 4's main character is named. He was just so...bland. Everyone tells him how blank and emotionless he is and it cracks me up. Going through all the crap he went through with a tired expression on his face sounds hilarious.
