Couldn't Understand The Boy's Mother Part

Although I enjoyed this movie, primarily due to its originality, I could not really understand the purpose of the boy's mother. I mean, at first she seemed shocked that lad had imprisoned the girl down in that horrendous concrete pit, but then she seems to have a change of attitude and says that they should leave her down there! Also, what connection did she have with the killer? And was she a bit mental?

As I said, a good movie, but the boy's mother character did leave me feeling very dubious about the ambiguity of her actions.

Can somebody please elucidate?

Okay, this is my take on this one. The Mother was horrified that he had imprissoned her, because it was now certain that they were going to be found out. But after the reality of it sunk in, and there was nothing she could do... she started to play it cool, and the new plan was to let the building get demolished, along with the evidence.

Cheers, Andypandy.

The reason she changed her mind was because she didn't want anyone to find out that she was down there. She was afraid to go to jail. She was hoping they'd demolish the building, killing Sam, and nobody would be the wiser, thinking she'd gone to Europe with her boyfriend. As far as the killer. Trapping him in there was her way of exacting revenge on him for killing all those people, including her husband. I think she was a bit on the disturbed level by this point, yes. Hope that clears things up.

That clears up a lot of questions. Cheers!
