Jimmy Ford

First, let me say that I really like Tom Skerritt. That being said, I really wasn't sad when they got rid of Jimmy Ford in Leverage. I HATED the way they did it and felt horrible for Nate, but I was glad knowing that he wasn't going to be in any additional episodes.

When Nate and Jimmy pulled off that "pill scam" I thought MAYBE it was going to be a turning point in the relationship. At that instant, I thought maybe I would enjoy seeing Nate and Jimmy work together more often....But ONLY in that instant. By the end of the episode I was glad to see him sail off into the sunset.

Once he came back, I was glad to see him go in a more permanent way. Is that cruel?

How did you all feel about the character?

I was so sad for poor Nate. I always wondered why Jimmy didn't try to make a run for it. He had 25 seconds left on the bomb, but instead he just stood there watching it count down, telling Nate on the phone to stay away and that he loved him. Was he just suicidal? I I think most people, even those who are somewhat suicidal, when facing a bomb with 25 seconds on it would be hauling ass! I always wondered about that episode...

I'm not exactly sure he was suicidal, but I do think maybe he realized this wasn't "his world" any longer. Back in the day, he ruled the town and enjoyed doing what he was doing. The episodes we saw showed that he may not have felt "relevant" any longer. His games no longer worked in the modern world. I think he thought that he was passing the baton onto his son and FINALLY realized that Nate wasn't useless and really was the future of the Fords. I'm still not completely sure if he really loved his son or if he just felt it was the only way for the Ford name to continue.

I think he realized his time was gone. He didn't want to fade into the sunset. But, I do believe that he really did love his son the best way he knew how.

My guess is that Jimmy still felt a little disoriented, and he knew he was old and couldn't run as quickly as when he was younger. Jimmy didn't think he could make it out it in time, and wanted to use his final seconds to say something important to Nate.

Jimmy was all about his reputation. He didn't REALLY care to be there for his son.

last words were, "Tell 'em my story. Tell people what Jimmy Ford did for his son" (not exact but close). He wanted to martyr out so he could be big-time Jimmy Ford.

I hated his character until the last 25 seconds where he really proved he loved his son.

Agreed! He "played" his own son until those last few moments! 
