Having a hooker for a girlfriend

It's funny because I work as a personal trainer and a member at my old gym I trained out of recommended this movie to me because one of the characters was a personal trainer.

How in the hell could anyone be in a committed relationship with a hooker? When you take STD's into account as well as the various guys she has sex with, how could he stand it? The fact that he would sit around his apartment night after night while she screwed a variety of different men and was there waiting for her when she got home makes Chris one of the biggest "nice guy" schmucks I have ever seen in a movie.

To be fair she seemed like a pretty classy hooker/escort. And it's become more acceptable these days to be in an open relationship. People are up for anything these days, and I doubt that guy would have trouble finding another girl so maybe he just didn't give a *beep*?

When it comes down to it, it really depends on who you are and how you feel about the person. Some guys have no trouble with it, Are cool with it.

Others would't want to put themselves in a situation like that

Trust and monogamy are not mutually inclusive concepts.

my theory was her boyfriend was gay. it was an emotional relationship, and that's about it. she was his beard.

reply

Haha, his beard? what?

She's a high class escort... A little different from a street hooker. She had strict boundaries (at least initially). I'm sure she contributed to the rent/mortgage of their nice pad... It's not totally far-fetched or out of the question....

It’s not “a little” different. It’s black-and-white different.

There are 3 levels to “The Life”:
streetwalker, house girl, and callgirl (or “escort,” as they are called today as a stupid euphemism, because escorts were men who were paid to accompany unpartnered ladies to social events in an age when it was unacceptable for a lady to attend all alone). A REAL callgirl is our society’s version of a Geisha. She MUST have mastered all social graces, especially conversation, and be able to charm anyone at any demographic level. If you think these women aren’t smart, the idiot in the room is you.

I heard that too, from you mom and sister.

One common term for a person like Chris is codependent. He's repulsed by the sordid situation he's in and also addicted to the drama when his girlfriend tests the boundaries. She also makes a lot more money than he does, so there's a financial dependency that he probably tries not to expose. If you doubt it, look at their apartment and ask yourself how he could afford it.

It doesn't matter how good-looking or charming he is -- you see some of his confidence issues when he tries to ask for a raise. What matters is how he sees himself and what patterns and dynamics shaped him when he was growing up.
