Mad World - Gary Jules

the song from the end of donnie darko

-You can't see me-

You also heard it in the new Halo commercials. It's also been done by Tears for Fears but I like the Gary Jules version best.

See you on the dark side of the moon.

maybe I've seen a different preview, but the song I heard is "Clean" by Depeche Mode.

it's from their Violator album, and looks pretty clearly to be about addiction. Find the lyrics here: http://www.seeklyrics.com/lyrics/depeche-mode/Clean.html

The song was used in the advertising campaign for the video game Gears of War.

There are two different versions of the commercial.
One has "Clean" by Depeche Mode...
The other has "Mad World" by Gary Jules -

I've been watching A & E all day and can 100% confirm your statement: there are two different trailers w/ the songs you listed.

reply

If you're referring to the same commercial I keep seeing, it's Clean by Depeche Mode-which has been explained on this thread already.

The other song, "Mad World" is sung by Gary Jules but it is an original of Tears For Fears.

Although I'm a huge DM fan, I'd say that both DM and TFF were very influential in the 80's. And as a DM fan, it's a "no no" to call them an 80's band, especially since their best selling music to-date was in the 90's (1. Violator, 2. Songs of Faith and Devotion) and 2000's (3. Playing the Angel)

reply

have to agree here.. DM was definately more of a '90's band than an '80's band.. but the version of Mad World from Donnie Darko is actually by Micheal Andrews and Gary Jules..

trivial, but noteworthy nonetheless!!!!

reply

I'm also a huge DM fan and they did have quite a few albums in the 80's that were good. If we are comparing them to Tears for Fears or Duran Duran then yes Depeche Mode is more 90's than those two, but they DID have a lot of albums in the 80's. They even had a concert video, 101, that came out in the late 80's
Speak & Spell-1981
A Broken Frame-1982
Construction Time Again-1983
People Are People-1984
Some Great Reward-1984
Catching Up With Depeche Mode & The Singles 81-85-1985
Black Celebration-1986
Music For The Masses-1987
101-1989

Now, to me they had a very successful career in the 80's & 90's. Their newer stuff is good too.

Some Great Reward, Black Celebration & Music for the Masses are really great albums by the way!!
