Best Animated Film

The selections for qualifying animated flicks are very slim this year that's why I think there will be only three instead of five.

These are the films eligible:

Alvin and the Chipmunks - Very doubtful. This is a moderate fan favorite and the animation is good but there are other films that they are likely to take more seriously.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters - Absolutely not. This is the fan film of all time and even those who are hardcore fans were baffled by it.

Bee Movie - Strong possibility. This is a prestige picture, it's got Seinfeld and Spielberg behind it, so even though the film was mediocre I think the movie will be nominated.

Beowulf - Possible but if so only because of the animation. It was a weak film (except for Angelina's smokin' hot body) and it recieved very weak box office.

Meet the Robinsons - Possible dark horse. It was fun little film from Disney and if nominated it will fit into the "Fifth Nominee" slot.

Persepolis - Sometimes the academy stretches themselves outside of prestige pictures and reaches out to other countries. Persepolis is a French film about a little Islamic girl during the revolution. There are only two foreign films eligiable for this category and if either get a nomination, I think this will be it.

Ratatouille - Not only a definate nominee but this is your winner.

Shrek the Third - Possible but if so, only because it's a second sequel and it would have a legacy of being nominated behind Shrek and Shrek 2.

The Simpsons Movie - Definate. I see a nomination as almost a lock here, the film was popular, it was a good film - almost everyone in Hollywood has been a guest star. I don't see it winning but I see a nomination happening.

Surf's Up - Possible. Everyone who has seen the film actually liked it.

Tekkonkinkreet - This is a little Japanese film that didn't get much distribution here. This category has become famous for selecting films from across the pond but ususally only one. It is more likely that they will select Persepolis over this one.

TMNT - Not a chance. This was a franchise film and not a good one.

I swear to God, if Ratatouille doesn't win Best Animated Feature, I will have lost all hope in the Academy.
