Worst show ever

This was a big disappointment! No Oscar Family Album, no real tributes to old Hollywood, to past winners... - and all this on such an occasion (the jubilee)! They omitted all winners before 1952...
The tribute to Heath Ledger was to short (like 2 seconds). Also the host wasn't the best. Almost no applause for Jane Wyman, they forgot Brad Renfro... The list of disappointments could go on forever. Shame on you Mr Cates...

Completely agree with you--just saw your post--check out mine!

Of course they didn't have any clips before 1952, stupid, because they're weren't any clips before 1952! The Oscars were first televised in 1953.
And what do you mean, no tributes to old Hollywood? They had the tributes before every acting award, the big "Best Picture" tribute, not to mention the "In Memoriam".

Any minute now I'll jump in with pointless observations.

I didn't mean the moment the actors received the awards, but the actors themselves - like Clark Gable, Loretta Young, Joan Fontaine, Greer Garson and countless others, who won Oscar before 1953 - they ommited them.
And - it is not especially kind to use such words as "stupied" in a public discussion, my friend.

Okay, you're right about the "stupid". I hate it when people talk like that and I shouldn't do it myself. It's just I get sick of people saying these Oscars were the worst. Every year I cringe all the way through the show because the jokes are awful, the speeches are long and embarassing, and for the most part it's just horrific. But this year, the speeches were short (mostly), Jon Stewart toned the political stuff down and was very funny, and I basically enjoyed the whole thing. I wish people would back off of it.

By the way, my friend, you spelled "stupid" wrong. Very not classy.

Any minute now I'll jump in with pointless observations.

Actually there were scenes of the Oscars 1948-1951 on the show. The quality was great too (not like a newsreel). I wonder if these shows were filmed for the Academy arcives. I had heard once that 1951's Oscars were filmed in color. Hence whenever they show Karl Malden's win, it is in color. Still they did focus on mostly on the past decade.

Yes it was one of the lousier shows. And in my recent Academy newsletter, Sid Ganis ominously warns that the show is at a turning point and might have to change its format drastically or risk being off the air completely.
