TiFF Review

Hey guys,

I attended the premiere of "Peep World" earlier this evening at the Toronto International Film Festival.

For those of you interested in an average movie goer's opinion, you'll have only to read a few lines.

*** Right to the point: the movie was NOT very good.
- It had some mildly funny moments, mostly supplied by Ben Schwartz, Sarah Silverman, and Taraji P. Henson, but these were far and few between. Not nearly enough when you take into account the actors and actresses the director had at his disposal.
- On that note, an extraordinary ensemble cast was sadly wasted; Michael C. Hall, despite being the lead, seems to be given only a handful of lines, while Rainn Wilson is given virtually nothing to work with and Judy Greer (an underrated physical comedienne) is forced to play the entire movie mind-numbingly straight as Hall's pregnant wife.
- Initially, the premise seemed like it had potential - sounding like a comic version of the Dogme 95 classic "Festen" - but everything it could have used to develop the story or enhance the comedy is overlooked.
- The ending, to put it nicely, is abrupt. In fact, it feels less like an ending and more like the filmmakers have simply given up on the storylines and are attempting to cut their losses and get the hell out of dodge. The voiceover (supplied by Lewis Black) attempts to excavate some semblance of meaning out of all the garbage, but it comes off as so lame its damn near insulting.

I'm not telling you NOT to see it. I'm not encouraging you to dislike it. That's just MY take.

Cheers!

did Famke Janssen have a cameo or not?

reply

No, sorry. No cameo from Famke.

As far as notable appearances go ...
Alicia Witt had a small role.
Geoffrey Arend shows up as a doctor.

When did the rumour of Famke Janssen being in the movie get started?

reply

both Famke and a producer of the film mentioned it that she was in it playing herself, she was like the first person attached to this then i guess they deleted/changed her role
