Great acting, pointless story, abrupt ending
The annoying narrator at the end says the patriarch succeeding in bringing his family together. WTF? No, he didn't. They were together in the hospital waiting room, but there was no resolution of any kind. The movie simply ended. Nobody's opinion of the wealthy father had changed. Nobody's opinion of the son who betrayed them all in his book had changed.
Nothing had changed at all, except they learned how much contempt their father had for them; contempt for the architect son for not being successful in business, contempt for the screw up son for doing nothing with his life and going through rehab three times, contempt for the daughter for not being grateful enough for the two nose jobs he paid for, and contempt for the son who, despite writing a successful novel, dared to be unhappy that his father had not bothered to read it.
Was there a point to this story? A premise? Character development? If there was, I completely missed it.
