American soldiers deserver to get wasted if they are like this movie!

You need not be an army specialist to see the many mistakes made in this movie.

1) Cover photo shows loose ammo and not real ammo on the helmet band
2) Soldiers would never occupy a house in a valley
3) Soldiers would not be stationed 7 people to guard a road
4) Soldiers would return to base if no radio contact
5) Soldiers would return to base if people started getting wasted this manner
6) Soldiers would not bother about finding an unimportant woman at a point where 95% of the group has been wasted
7) Soldiers would not use white light in twilight
8) Soldiers would not move in close groups
9) Pistols are hardly standard issue to all soldiers in the US army
10) Soldiers would not fire a shot at a statue and risk getting spotted

Well, at least real soldiers wouldn't..

From your impeccable logic I deduce that the actors in this film, plus the crew, were just film types and not regular army. How disappointing. Do you think that means that the story wasn't real? Please say it isn't so ...

reply

Noooo! I'm pretty sure it's a real story.. I mean I heard about this Gin thing before and they were like in a dessert [sic!] and all in this saddam osama bin laden country over there in Israel!!

My only aim was to say, that the director and producers should know that the ONLY people that would watch this movie would be guys and most likely guys with some military interest/training (unless they made the movie for the 13-18 year old segment who just watches the movie in the hope that they will see a nipple exposed).

The points I noted were the most simple points that I assume that EVEN American young guys age 18+ would know. That lead me to logically deducting that MAYBE the American soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan are actually operating just like the movie depicts! If that is the case, then I am not surprised that they get wasted sometimes.

Before you flame me as an anti-war commie - please note that my country has lost more lives per citizen in the Iraq/Afghanistan missions than any other. Then if you are really bothered to find out which country you can do a bit of investigation :o)

Have a nice Sunday,

I was only teasing you about the military rubbish - I couldn't give a camel's testicle how authentic it may or may not be.

I disagree about the demographic by the way; the target audience would have been the standard horror/spook filmgoers. The background of people getting wasted in curious and unpleasant ways couldn't happen to the descendants of the Afghans/tribal members who shut up the djinns, so it had to be someone new and dumb. And who fits that description better than the average GI?

I wouldn't dream of flaming you as an anti-war commie. I am English and I take great exception to our people getting killed for no good reason just to satisfy Amerikan expansionism. It was always my understanding that the Law of Holes dictates that when you're in one, you should stop digging - a point which seems lost on the vermin who run our countries.

You have a good Sunday too. And watch out for those pesky djinns.

How about the person who actually thinks that describes the "average GI"?

So wait... American "expansionism"... And... you're English? Wow, someone really failed those history classes. (And of course nevermind the whole international establishment of independent governments in both Afghanistan and Iraq. Clearly they are just American colonies now. It's only a matter of time till one gets renamed New Texas.)

reply

"Independent" governments in both Afghanistan and Iraq? What a joker. Do you even come from this planet?

reply

No, I'm from Earth. Unlike some people who believe every half assed anti-American conspiracy that gets thrown around apparently.

Fun fact. Afghanistan and Iraq have received more immediate autonomy from international oversight than Japan post WW2 by... well, about 65 years and counting since Japan still has restrictions placed upon it that neither Iraq nor Afghanistan do.

So tell me, how exactly is either country under American control when the problem is that we wanted to leave sooner? Maybe you mean all those corporate take overs of oil wells that never materialized. Or maybe you think that anyone would be stupid enough to put Karzai in charge of a puppet regime. That's like getting a pit bull to guard your kittens while you're away.

reply

But not Earth as we know it, Jim.

ROFL

First of all, You are English and yet refer to american expansion? Hmm, forgotten about India?, Afghanistan?, Scotland?, Wales?, Ireland? (my great grandparents came from Ireland, ever heard about the Potato famine in the 1800's? millions starved or emigrated so the English landlords wouldnt be deprived of their land rental income)Canada?, Australia?, large parts of Africa? OH and lets not forget the US, twice.

Second, American is spelled with a C not a K. not sure if you are a poor speller or just trying to be insulting, but american is a term that applies to all the citizens of all the countries in in north, central and south America.

Third, what expansionism are you refering to? The US hasnt taken over any land (expanded) in order to stay and plant colonists as the british have historically done. They go in to remove threats and then leave.

Fourth, historically the US has been much more of an isolationist country than an expansionist one. In the overwhelming majority of conflicts, we dont get involved until someone(usually an ally)asks us for help or we get attacked directly.

Finally, if you are referring specifically to the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq, that is a joint effort, so are all the countries involved expansionist?

reply

"They go in to remove threats and then leave."

Really? Not so good at that, are you? No better than at winning wars, in fact.

What's the point of reproaching me for the actions of my country taken centuries before I was born? Am I supposed to feel defensive or proud or whatever about whatever my ancestors did? Because I don't. Do I feel upset that your great grandparents found themselves unable to grow potatoes? I couldn't give a stuff for your great grandparents. Sorry.

Don't worry, you'll soon be able to practice isolationism again. You don't have any friends left anyway, so you won't miss them. In the meantime why don't you for goodness sake superglue that Bell back together. If anything is a metaphor for Amerika that thing is.

1. I didn't even look at the cover, saw it on tv.
2. Yes, that would be a pretty stupid place to set up shop.
3. Depends on how long they were going to guard it really.
4. Actually no, they would stay put, their superiors would send additional troops to check out the situation when they had failed to check in.
5. It would probably depend on the man in charge but when you're fighting an uncorporeal being you are kinda out of options.
6. Correct, once they had been decimated they'd be forced to abandon the position and retreat, and they really didn't have the manpower to send out any patrols in hostile territory to begin with.
7. Correct, if they had to use light (which would NOT be used to find their way out of a truck for example) they would have used red light since it's not visible at the same distances white light is.
8. They were grouped up way to close yeah, and when they found the statue they all just forgot about their sectors and stood there lined up and ready to be shot, all of them. Hell, speaking of basic mistakes when they check out the nearby settlement most of them have their sights jabbed into their jaw for some reason, (it works better when you're looking through or over it).
9. Correct.
10. Correct.
