Highly recommended

I saw this and thought it was very good stuff. Nice creepy and suspenseful thriller. Simon Barrett deserves credit for coming up with an original idea in a genre filled with cliches, and the director and cast carry it out well. I thought Shane West was great and the rest of the acting is pretty good too. Held my attention (and scared me) throughout. 8.5 out of 10.

An original idea? What, a different idea from all the other lame nonsense films about mysterious bloodthirsty spirits coming from the past to do a load of occupying soldiers? The Keep, Castle Keep, Outpost just for three off the top of my head.

If you thought this was an original idea you need to watch more films. A lot more films. About as scary as an apple with a maggot inside.

I liked it. I think it was really scary.

Worst movie ive seen. I dont see any good with it!

I was thinking of giving it a 6, than at the end you could see Djin-->5, then at the last his eyers became black-->4. Too bad, because i really liked the first 80 minutes or something.

Are you kidding?
That's when I really started to freak out!

reply

i thought the same....
I was going to give it a 6 but after the Djin I rated
it 5/10..

But overall it was a good movie

I liked it too. A LOT. I'm so sick of the so-called modern horror flicks, which feature only cheap blood and gore! This movie had likeable characters, plenty of creepy moments and a haunting finale. Very good filmmaking, overall.

It was pretty effective. Suspense built in the last hour to a strong climax.

reply

I totally agree. I loved the camera work.

Anyone who says this is the worst movie they've ever seen has only seen about three movies in their life or they're a fool.

It was okay, I always like the concept of the nastys of a horror flick taking on a military team similiar to Neil Marshall's Dog Soldiers.

I have to be honest I wasn't scared, the blacked out eyes was a creepy effect but when your working on a budget similiar to this production I presume people resort to CG effects and it sometimes ruins it and it certainly did for me, especially when the foreign ladie's arm expanded to get hold of the hip flask.

When the film's bad guy is a supernatural presence, I feel it doesn't really need to be shown in full show like Red Sands, try Long Time Dead, that film portrays a demonic presence perfectly, even if styles and matter are very different.

While I thought it was scary... no, scary's too strong a word... let's just say I found it a little unnerving. Anyway, I still think 8.5 is being way too generous because there was a lot lacking from this movie and imo, I think it could've been done a lot better.

Big Gay Al, it has recently come to our attention that you are gay.

Looking at myself in the mirror is creepier.

Yeah, um, mmm, *cough* *cough*

Eric Portman didn't show up until an hour in.

I only saw the last 30 minutes, but for being the big climactic ending sequence I was not impressed in the least.

Maybe if they had come up with something for the djinn monsters to BE, instead of just copying the long-arm-zombie monster from that crappy movie about angels attacking (cant remember the name, tells you how good it was).

This idea wasnt in the least bit original - hell, Blade 3 had soldiers discovering an old relic in the sands. The execution wasnt very original either - a scary, low-budget desert seclusion horror story? Um, didnt they already do that like, MANY times? The Hills Have Eyes, Feast, etc.

Oh, and that ending? Wow, that was REEAAALLLY surprising!... If youre a retarded chimp that was born 3 weeks ago :\

Unimpressive, not enjoyable, overall not worth watching.
