Am I the only one who enjoys this?

I'm surprised these boards are a bit dead. As a 19-year-old university student, I find this series strangely enjoyable to watch on a Saturday morning. Sure, it's no big budget production with flawless acting but it's quite charming. It's a shame the show is propped against those pointless Disney programs... the only one of their shows which carries the undertone of "study hard" or "science is fun" is Phineas and Ferb (which I admit is brilliant)!

Anyhow, I don't mean to bash Disney programs (I really do love them), but I honestly believe that if it weren't in such a timeslot, there would be a greater chance for K-9 to shine. It has that quaint humour and great morals which could do quite well in Australia (just look at how well shows like Merlin and Robin Hood have done)!

Great family viewing.

Are you kidding? I LOVE the show! I'm a 23 year old uni student from Oz - and have so much fun watching this show - i'm a major DW fan, so I was curious to check this out when it started, and what I found was a highly enjoyable, fun show!
the storylines are well done considering the time constraints (Sarah Jane adventures - which i also like - get 2x 30mins for one of their stories), the acting is great (i didn't realise they weren't actually British!) and the special effects are highly effective.
I'm proud of the role Oz had in creating this wonderful show. When I first saw the picture of the 'new' K9 i was a little hesitant, but from the first moments of the first episode I knew it would be fine.

I'm quite surprised the lack of interest on these boards as well! Long live K9!

Do you have monkeys in Scotland?
~No, but if we did we'd probably deep fry them!

It's a fun show, but I don't know why they set it in London with a bunch of Australians and a Canadian putting on their best 'I was in A Midsummer Night's Dream at drama school' accents. Is there any real reason why K9 couldn't have ended up in Brisbane?

this was ok.

so any news on season 2?
not yet

Its enjoyable, but as an adult I think they could push the storylines a bit more. Look at Doctor Who, they don't cater to kids but they have a large children audience. I think the show is off to a good start and the latter half of the season got pretty good.

It's a decent series.

It was featured in Australia a few years ago. Now they play re-runs of it.

Sci Fi Channel (I refuse to misspell the title!) is showing a marathon today. I hadn't heard of the series before and at first found it tricky to find at IMDb till I entered the title and an episode title in a search.

I got in with the snakey alien Ouroboros~a surprising allusion for me. I read "The Worm Ouroboros" by Eric Rücker Eddison when I was about 19, when, in the late Sixties/early Seventies, many writers were being rediscovered, including Lord Dunsany and H.P. Lovecraft.

I'm finding it a pleasant experience, somewhat reminiscent of watching "Doctor Who" in the Seventies, back when a local PBS station started showing the series. Tom Baker was my first Doctor. Then, they aired earlier Doctors though Mr. Baker remains my absolute favorite, especially after meeting several of the actors.

At the conventions where I met those actors, there always seemed to be a man accompanied by the K-9 he had built. So, this brings back even more happy memories.

recorded all 26 episodes christmas day from the Sci-Fi channel... It's halfway decent, have you seen The Sarah Jane Adventures? Those are much better and remind me more of old Doctor Who episodes.

Tom Baker was my first Doctor as well, also watched on PBS.

I managed to see a few of them and did enjoy them. I'm not sure why I didn't watch them regularly. It might be that an alternate program overruled me watching them.

Wouldn't it be wonderful if Sci Fi Channel went back to its older programming, showing the many SF/fantasy and even horror series that are available? They could do the whole range of "Doctor Who", all of those years of episodes that haven't been seen for so long, plus the other two "Who" series. And, they could get back to airing "Star Trek" (OS), "Dark Shadows" (both series), "Space: Above and Beyond", "Babylon 5", and so much more. There are a lot of short-lived series, too: "Prey", "The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne", "Tracker", etc.

Instead, we get wrestling, generally awful "reality" shows (though I like "Face Off"), and series that seem like carbon copies of each other.

Now, I hope they will air "K-9" again, as I didn't get to see as many episodes as I wanted to. (I don't rule the TV. =})

I discovered old shows like "Land of the Giants" because of Sci-Fi, and caught up on many episodes that i'd missed from other beloved shows.... I agree with you, i wish they would go back to older programming.

The rebranding is painful, and I hate typing the new name....

I love your quote by the way :)

reply

I understand about the name! I WON'T type that misspelling! Shame on them! Forrest Ackerman would definitely have admonished them for doing that for the abbreviation he coined.

Sadly, by the time our cable added the channel, all of those oldie/goodies had been taken off the air. Yet, they still did air others from time to time till doing away with them to make room for other programs. The nuttiest choice is wrestling={ That has nothing to do with SF! Sadly, too many stations are selling out and are a fiasco to what they used to be, especially A&E, which certainly no longer can be called Arts & Entertainment!

Maybe the "K-9" marathon is a sign of better programming to come.
